I should have said that my question refers to a partition backup. I understand that I can select to backup files in unencrypted form when using a file backup.

Hi,

It depends on the software you use.

For Acronis Backup 11.5, you have an option to choose:

http://www.acronis.com/en-us/support/documentation/ABR10/#1300.html

Also, you can choose to backup sector-by-sector, the backed up data will be exactly the same as the source data

I am using Acronis True Image 2016. The option to decrypt EFS encrypted files is not available for partition backups. So, my orginal question stands. Are the files on the backup media encrypted or decrypted? I cannot find any information about this for EFS.

For Windows 10 running BitLocker encryption the files are decrypted in the backup but I cannot find any information for EFS. Thanks.

Hi Bazsl,

Unfortunately, Acronis True Image has not yet been tested for the compatability with EFS encypted files.

Therefore, this operation is not yet officially supported.

For more information on compatibility of Acronis Backup Software with Encryption Software, please see this article.

Thank you.
