Backup failed - Unable to create volume snapshot

Thread needs solution

At the moment Acronis True image 2016 has ceased working,  Every time the "backup entire pc"  starts, it works well and quickly right up to 99%, once it gets to 99% it hangs for about half an hour and then the following message comes up "The last backup failed.  We will return to the backup at xxxxpm.

Unable to create volume snapshot

Can anyone help as this only started happening a week ago

Paul, can you post one of the failing service_ log files from C:\ProgramData\Acronis\TrueImageHome\Logs folder - look for the date/time of the last backup failure.  That may help us understand what is happening here.  It would also help if you can provide some more information on the size of your 'entire PC' backup and the available free space on your target drive where you are storing the backup.

Hi,

i just bought the software Acronis True image 2016 and I have the same kind of problem. When I launch the backup, it saved 330 Mo and stop it. After a few minutes, I have the message : the last backup failed. Impossible to create the snapshot volume.

Can you help me please ?

Thanks

Stephane, you should create your own post for your problem rather than adding to the end of another users, as it is not certain that the two problems are the same.  The answer I gave to the original poster remains the same.  We will need more information, in particular, to see the service_ log file for the failed backup task, so that we can try to understand what the problem is.

Stephane, please do open your own post in the forum and we will be happy to help you.

Paul Wood, Stephane BUREAU,

Can either one of you tell me if in addition to the "Unable to create volume snapshot" were any error codes displayed?

If yes were those codes:

Event Codes:

0x00DA0002+0x000101F6+0x00070021+0x0010C442+0x0000FFF0

0x000101F6+0x00070021+0x0010C442+0x0000FFF0

If not what codes did you see if any?

I finally find the solution :

Disable Volume Shadow Copy, if other programs do not require running VSS:

  1. Start -> Run -> services.msc
  2. Locate Volume Shadow Copy service, right-click and select Properties.
  3. Set the startup type to Disabled.
  4. Stop the service.
  5. Restart the backup.
