backup stalls

Thread needs solution

I am attempting to backup disks and partitions. When I try to start the backup I see Queued in the progress bar and there seems to be no further action.

How do I get the backup to proceed?

HI Ed, without knowing much more about your setup (backing up locally, across the network, etc), I can only guess that is is an issue with VSS on the system.  As a test, you can disable VSS in your backup and Acronis will run with the proprietary snapapi backup method that used to be the default backup type in 2014 and earlier.

If this does not help, I would then open an elevated command prompt (right click and "run as administrator") and run the following command to check for disk errors - you'll most likely need to reboot so that it can run while the disk is not in use and it may take a while depending on how large the drive  is and/or if it's a faster SSD or slower spinning drive.

chkdsk /f /r

After running the chkdsk, then you can attempt to run the backup again and see how it goes.

I saw an answer to my comment above, by Bobbo I believe, and can't seem to find it now.

In any event I have set vvs to false and the problem seems to be resolved.

PS I am now in edit after I posted the above two lines Bobbo's response appeared. Thanks

Glad to hear it.  Not sure if it's a VSS issue on some machines, or Acronis having issues accessing the VSS service on some machines.  VSS is tough to troubleshoot, but can often be a problem for backup software that relies on this Windows service if it is not functioning correctly.
