Cannot create volume snapshot

Thread needs solution

I am running a Toshiba laptop with XP SP3 and have converted the HD into a SSD.

So far everything went good and the PC is running faster without errors, except for the Acronis backup.

Installed is Acronis True Image 2016 with the latest version downloaded today, build 6027

The target is an external HD from Transcend, 2 TB, connected via USB, formatted with NTFS, free space about 1.9 TB. Read/Write access to the target directory is ok.

Soon after starting the backup Acronis fails with "Cannot create volume snap shot",

no further error codes are available.

Hello Dieter,

Thank you for your posting! If you don not have any running databases like SQL or Exchange, you can just disable Volume Shadow Copy as described in the following article: https://kb.acronis.com/content/48686 Did this help?

Thank you,

You might also run chkdsk /r against the  external drive.  I have found that many large capacity drives these days contain errors new out of the box.

Hi Ekaterina,

yes, disabling VSS was the solution.

Thanks to all of you for commenting.
