Cannot save settings in Win 10...
I tried to set up Acronis True Image Home 2016 as a trial and give it a whirl. But, I didn't have time to do a full backup right now and just wanted to save the settings and do the backup later tonight.
When I selected Backup Later (https://forum.acronis.com/system/files/forum/2015/09/99144/image_1.png) the app asked me for my Windows Credentials (https://forum.acronis.com/system/files/forum/2015/09/99144/iimage_2.png).
So I entered my Windows 10 login (email + password) but Acronis rejected it. Then I entered just my username and password, and Acronis rejected it.
So now I must exit the app and lose all of my changes (https://forum.acronis.com/system/files/forum/2015/09/99144/image_4.png)? Who thought this horrible user experience up?
This is why I have always used other backup apps. Acronis makes the simple stuff hard. Why can't I just set up Acronis, leave and come back without losing my settings? Why does Acronis need any Windows Credentials when I just want to save my settings and run the backup later?
When I have tried Acronis in the past, I have always gotten strange errors and no real help from Acronis. I had hoped this time would be different.

I guess the confusion for me came from the program asking for "Windows Credentials" instead of "Share Credentials".

Warf Rat,
Why can't I just set up Acronis, leave and come back without losing my settings and do the backup later tonight.
Yes, you can do what you want to do. What is needed to accomplish this goal is a User created 'NON-SCHEDULED" backup task. Acronis is not user friendly and not intuitive. The program will do what you want but you just need to learn how.
Your image_1 is a warning telling you that you have not saved your task and your configuration is not complete. If you see that message, stop and complete the incompletes--(such as "do not schedule" on the scheduler screen) all the other options need to be completed first so you do not get that message.
Your image_4 is the last step in saving your configuration. The selection of "Later" is one of the last required steps needed in order to run the task manually at a time of your choosing.
In order to do what you want, let's create a new backup task and that task has be created as "non-scheduled" task.
-------------------------------------------------------
All backups begin or are created with a user created backup task. Instructions relate to version 2016.
1. Begin a new task, click the + sign in lower left corner.
2. Top left: Assign task name is highlighted: You can accept or change the task name now, or the name can be "renamed" after the task has been saved. Name of the tib backup file will be same as task name you assign here or rename. Renaming a task name only changes the tib file name on future backup--does not change existing backup names. Note the taskname should be unique and should not be reused. Each task should have its own individual name and not duplicated in future tasks.
3. Select backup contents: Click the disk picture (middle left) and select the "Entire PC"; or select Disk & partitions; or files and folders--all depending upon what you want included within your backup.
4. Select backup destination: Click the Cloud picture (middle right).
...a. Click the 'BROWSE" option. Browse the directory tree to the folder or sub-folder you wish to use as the storage folder for your backups. Select the storage folder target or use the "new folder" option in lower left and create the new sub-folder before selecting it as your target. Troubleshooting: clicking the + sign along the devices or folders enables you to dig deeper in the directory tree.
...b. After selecting the target folder, click the OK button in lower right to return to main menu.
5. Click OPTIONS in lower left to complete additional configurations.
6. Disk Backup Options screen will be displayed with 5 different header sections.
7. Scheduler: To configure a "non-scheduled" task so that ALL backups are manually created via the "Back up now" option,
click the "do not schedule" Option and continue to next header.
Or, if the task being created is to be a scheduled task run a specific times on a schedule, then select the desired schedule settings plus select the advanced settings option.
Within the "advanced settings," be aware of the preset settings, BUT DO NOT SELECT THE "RUN WHEN IDLE" option. If that is selected, the computer is never idle and backups will never run.

8. Next, click the header "backup scheme". Configure custom schemes as per one of my examples GH11, GH12, or GH13. My examples are custom schemes with automatic cleanup which instructs the program to perform automatic deletion of the oldest chains when the number of completed backups exceeded your storage or retention quota. If automatic cleanup not selected, then the disk will fill and require manual deletion which in turn causes the program to stop creating backups. Choosing schemes with automatic cleanup is the normally the best option.

9.Next, click the header "notifications":
Complete this section (recommended) if you wish email notification of the success or failure of your backup run. Completing this option and successfully sending the test message option" is the quickest and easiest way to know the results. The log file for this informtion is stored at C:\ProgramData\Acronis\TrueImageHome\Logs.

10. Next, click the header "Exclusions": You may not want all the items listed to be excluded from your backups. Clicking a selected item and clicking the - sign removes the item from the exclusion list so that selected item will now be included within the backup.
11. Next, click the header "Advanced": Configure whichever backup options you need such as backup validation, password, comments, error handling (number of retries on errors), etc.
12. Next, click the header "Schedule" again;
Confirm that you scheduler settings are unchanged and conform to your desires.
13. Default settings: If you wish many of these same settings to appear already selected on future tasks,
Then click the "Save as default" in lower left corner.
14. Next, Click the OK button in lower right corner which will return you to main menu but your task is still incomplete and not saved as yet.
15. In lower right corner, DO NOT CLICK THE "BACK UP NOW". Instead, click the "DOWN ARROW" AND CLICK THE "LATER" OPTION.
Clicking the "LATER" OPTION causes the task to be saved and appear in left column for selection of future manual backups at a time of your choosing.
16. If the task name needs to be changed or other configuration changes, now is the time to make those corrections before the task begins to create actual backups.
17. Once the task is in use, making corrections to its settings is not recommended as the correction seldom produces the desired results.
Once the task is in use, if corrections needed, it is usually better to stop using the old task and create a new task in its place.

Thank you for this, GroverH.
Your steps 14-17 are critical to using this tool and yet are far less than intuitive even for an experienced user.
With Acronis 2017 on Windows 10, I spent several hours trying to sort out what was going on until I stumbled into the fact that in order to save a backup schema one must click "later" in the the bottom right pulldown. Having the "save" option labeled as such would be quite useful, and perhaps not buried in a misleading pulldown.
One more annoyance to this user is that previously saved ("latered") backup folder selections are not presented when making modifications. The selections start with a clean slate and so adding a new folder requres selecting all previously selected folders once again - hoping we don't miss one by accident and find ourselves at square one once more.
The user interface is pretty, but requires some fundamental work to be friendly IMHO.

Don, please use the Feedback tool in the GUI Help section to pass your comments about the application design to the Acronis developers, as it is unlikely that they will venture into the forums to read it here.
