Cannot see individual files in one set of backups
Hi -
I'm using the latest version of TrueImage on Win7-64. I have several sets of backups on a removable HD that I can open and view individual files on, but one particular set that I can't. I tried several of the actions mentioned in other threads (such as https://forum.acronis.com/forum/88368), but I still can't access individual files in this backup. Selecting the volume results in the "Data to recover: Calculating size..." message at the bottom of the inteface to stay on indefinitely.
What information do I need to provide to help diagnose this?
Thanks in advance,
Mike

What type of backup? Disk/Partition or Files/Folders? Is the backup a full backup or incremental/differential? Can you take a screen capture of the error message?
FtrPilot
1 - Disk backups
2 - Incremental/Diffential
3 - There's no error message - it simply never shows the files. There are four different PCs backed-up on same media (removeable HD), and selecting three of them results in expected behavior (a file tree is shown after a brief pause) but the forth never shows the contents of the backup(s).
Thanks,
Mike

Michael, please try running a Validate against the backup that you are having the problem with - you can do this via the GUI if the backup task that created it is shown there, or otherwise, right-click on the image file in Windows Explorer, select True Image >> Validate.
I would recommend also downloading the Log File Viewer app from the forum and using this to check the log messages to see if there are any errors being posted, in particular, for the TibMounter logs that get created for your images when you mount them.

I'll try the app you mention.
I attempted to validate the backup in question:

Michael...please refer to the link below.

I believe you need to download the tib mounter patch and install it. If you can mount & view full backups but not incrementals or differentals, then it is definitely the tib mounter issue.

I installed the patch, it began checking the backup and eventually reported that the backup was corrupt. I'm not sure how, or why, this occurred, as I backed-up this particular PC about once a quarter for about two years, and the backup processes themselves never reported an issue.
What's my next step, or are these simply lost?
Thanks,
Mike

Mike, did you download the Log File Viewer app as per my reply in post #3 above? It would be useful to know what messages are being posted in the logs for this issue. You are welcome to post some of the logs here if you would like a second opinion on their content. You may need to look back in the logs to the time when your last quarterly backup was made to see if any errors were reported for that task?

Michael,
If you have a spare or extra drive, I would attempt to restore to it (not the original drive). You could start with recovering certain files/folders and see how that goes. If you have a full disk backup, then restore it to your spare/test drive and see if it shows success. If it does, before booting into your OS, remove the original drive, replace with the new one and boot it with just that drive and see how it goes. The only validation I truly trust is the one I know that I've been able to verify in real life and this is a safe way to validate your backup without risking the original data. If the backup is indeed corrupt, you'll know via the restore failing, and if it restores successfully, then it should be bootable if it is the only drive in the system (and in the original drives location) when you boot it up. If it does not restore or does not boot after restore, you can revert back to the original drive and boot to windows. Then attach the drive while booted into Windows already and see if has the recovered files/folders where you can recover the data off of it.

In an attempt to recover the data I need and diagnose the problem, I pulled the laptop out of storage that I used to create the backups and found that I couldn't open them even on that system.
I haven't installed the Viewer on the source PC yet, but I'm attaching a log file from the PC that I used to try to open the backups.

I tried with 2013 installation on the source PC (see previous post) and a fully patched 2016 installation, and neither will allow me to restore from these backups.
I'm thoroughly confused as to why I could successfully backup the source PC for a couple of years, put the PC in a drawer for several years and now can't open the archives.

Michael, thank you for the log file but this shows an attempted backup validation of a single incremental backup archive file per the message text below:
message=Validate Backup Archive Location: F:\FXX_WIN77_inc_b1_s8_v1.tib
This followed by several lines with: message=Read error;
Then we get several lines with: message=The specified file does not exist.;
Have you checked your backup drive to confirm that you have either other incremental files or a full backup file with the same naming format, i.e. F:\FXX_WIN77_full_b1_s8_v1.tib ?
Can you post a listing of the backup archive files from the drive holding them?

There is only one file with the suffix of inc_b1_s8_v1, all others are named FXX_WIN7 through WIN77.

Michael, you originally said: There are four different PCs backed-up on same media (removeable HD), and selecting three of them results in expected behavior (a file tree is shown after a brief pause) but the forth never shows the contents of the backup(s).
Are these four different PC backup all in the same or in separate folders on your removable HD media?
Please provide either a screen shot of the problem set of image files or a listing of the same showing all of their file names. Please also clarify what version of ATIH created these backup image files, i.e. 2016 or 2013?
See Backup file naming for ATIH 2016 and Backup file naming for ATIH 2013 and check whether your files conform to these naming conventions?
