Cloning internal SSD to SSD in second bay. ATI restarts, but doesn't clone
Window 10 Home, Toshiba Satellite 24 GB of RAM, two internal bays.
Normally I have one SSD with my applications and one HD for my documents.
For security I want to clone the SSD (SSD1) which is my C: drive. This is my boot drive. I have confirmed it is a Basic drive
I am a DBA/Web Developer, so I need to be able to recover very quickly from disasters.
I remove the HD from the second bay, and insert a second SSD (SSD2).
I run the clone command, and select the proper drives. ATI tells me it needs to restart. It does, but nothing happens; SSD2 is not a clone of SSD1
Any ideas?
Thanks,
Kathryn

Hello Kathryn,
If you have not yet upgraded to the latest build 6559 for ATIH 2016 I would recommend doing so as it has added device drivers for some of the newer SSD drives.
You can achieve the 'clone' of your primary SSD drive by doing a normal backup image to an external drive, then restoring the image to the second SSD drive in your second slot - you should take an entire disk backup image to ensure all hidden partitions are included.
When you perform a clone from within Windows, then the system will restart and use a linux type boot to continue the clone operation, it sounds as if this does not recognise your internal drive(s), hence the need to upgrade to build 6559 as a first remedy.
If this does not resolve the issue, then please try creating the standard Acronis Rescue Media using the media builder tool in the ATIH GUI and check whether you can boot from either a DVD or USB memory stick with the rescue media and see your SSD's. When doing so, please ensure that you boot in the same way as for Windows, i.e. if Windows boots in UEFI mode, then the Rescue Media should be booted in the same mode.
If the standard rescue media does not recognise your SSD's then you will need to create the Windows PE version of the rescue media which in turn uses the Windows 10 ADK to provide device support.

Hi,
Thanks! That is just what I needed. I created a bootable USB drive and it worked like a charm.
Best,
Kathryn
