Deleting backup files with windows explorer

Thread needs solution

My tech guy deleted a whole bunch of my ATI 2016 backups using windows explorer. I read it's not a good idea to delete backups in this way so I saved two new full backups with a couple of incrementals, and set the autoclean to delete anything other than 2 recent chains. This has now deleted all the old backups. I've just run validation which was successful.

Is this all I need to do? I am concerned that there may be metadata left over from the backups deleted by windows explorer- would the autoclean have removed these?

David, welcome to these User Forums.

Running a Validation after doing any manual deletions of Acronis backup files is all that should be needed, provided that the file deletions are done with an awareness of dependencies that these files may have.

Example: if you delete Incremental files within a chain of such files, then the whole chain is broken because each file is dependent on the one before it.

The key reason for using Validation is to reconcile the information held in the internal Acronis Database files for your backup tasks with the status of backup files still present in your destination locations used by those tasks.
