Failed to open (initialize) the computer - Acronis doesn't work after program update

Thread needs solution

Since I did an Acronis program update last week, my Acronis backup does not work. The email that Acronis sends me once the backup fails (this only takes less than a minute) says "Operation has completed with errors".

If I try to choose "Options" for the backup that is not working, Acronis goes into a "not responding" state.

When I click on the bix X in a red circle (when selecting the backup) it shows me the error message, and says to click on the link for more information. The link says "There is no information about this error available now".

When I search on the Acronis website for information on the error "failed to open (initialize) the computer", there is no information on Acronis 2016, just on older versions of Acronis. There is a solution provided to update the SnapAPI module to the latest build for the 2012 and 2013 versions only.

Apparently, I no longer have support options - I just bought this in September - how long does Acronis provide support after purchase?

Can anyone advise me how to fix this?  Thanks in advance!!

If this was working OK before you did the update, then I would suggest uninstalling the program and reinstalling it again, but download the latest version from your Acronis account on the web to ensure that you have good installation media to do this with.

Sounds like something went wrong with the upgrade or perhaps got blocked by your security software?

I encountered the exact same error message after upgrading from ATI 2016 build 5634 to build 6027. As suggested by Steve, I unistalled Acronis, rebooted and did a fresh install from the web. I had to readd and reschedule my backups; after that, everything worked perfectly again.

Thanks to both of you, Steve and Mark - I uninstalled and reinstalled and it now seems to be working.
