Incremental Backup Question

Thread needs solution

I have True Image 2016 installed and selected the Incremental backup everyday, with Full Versions every 5 days, and the Delete versions chains older than 7 days option selected.

My system is not deleting the older version chains after seven days as I have set it up.  Am I missing something in the set up?  The software is doing the backups, but not deleting the older full backups and incremental chains.

Hi Jerry,

The 7 days will not kick in until the completion of the version chain.  So basically, your first full would run, followed by incrementals for the next 5 days.  After the next version chain starts (the completion of the next full), your oldest version chain will be deleted in 7 days.

If your intention is to keep one version chain and have the old one deleted at the end of each week, instead of using days, you could instead set the maximum version chains to retain as 2.  You could do 1, but then you lose your incrementals all at the same time and only have the 1 full to fall back on.  With two, you'll always have at least one week of incrementals to fall back on, but at times, you'll have two weeks.

Version chain 1 = full + 5 incremetals

Version chain 2 = full + 5 incrementals (2 weeks of backups)

Version chain 3 starts... and the first full completes, now version chain 1 is deleted and you still have Version 2 + your new full...
