installing acronis

Thread needs solution

I want to license this product for a machine other than the one I will be downloading on.  Can I download on one computer, copy the installation files to, say, a CD-ROM, and install on another computer?

The reason I ask is that the machine i want to install on does not have internet access; It's a machine which controls a cnc milling machine and which is in an industrial building with no internet access.

Jerry, you should be able to do what you want - please see KB document: 56598: Acronis True Image 2016: Activating a Full Version which includes a video tutorial.

I get this message when I try installing Acronis True image 2016 from the disk.

Windows cannot find "bin\AcronisTrueImage2016_full_5634.exe'. Make sure you typed the name correctly, and then try again.

Might be a bad download - where did you get the install file (from your local machine or did you download the full installer from your account).  If you grabbed it from your account, make sure the entire thing downloads completley before you attempt to copy it to a CD or another drive.  Personally, I've stopped using CD's and DVD's as the media is to prone to failure and bad writes.  Copy the downloaded file to a UsB flash drive.  Then, copy it from the USB drive to the new system and run it directly from the new system.  Be sure to right click the installer and select "run as administrator" to give it the hightest privileges.

Just curious, but what OS are you going to be installing this on?  There are limitations with XP.  Hopefully you're using Win 7 or newer?

Anthony,

AcronisTrueImage2016_full_5634.exe that you referenced in your post is a very old version of this product.

Please download the latest AcronisTrueImage2016_6571.exe installer file from your Acronis account online - see attached image from my account.

I attempted to install true image on my Windows XP system and I received the following error messaage.

Acronis Acronis True Image Installation restricted

You are attempting to install Acronis True Image 2016 on an unsupported operating system.  Please consult the Users Guide for a list of supported platforms.

My Os is: Microsoft Windows XP [Version 5.1.2600], which, is, I think, service pack 2.

The above message suggests to me that I need to apply service pack 3, which I am loath to do without backing up first, which I can't do because the backup software won't install.

Anybody have any ideas to get around this impasse?

Use the bootable recovery media (outside of Windows).  Boot to it and take a full disk backup. The installer message is only for support running the application in Windows.

Jerry, ditto to the advice from Bobbo.

See KB document: 56517: Acronis True Image 2016: Supported Operating Systems which states:

Acronis True Image 2016 supports these operating systems:

  • Windows 10 (all editions)
  • Windows 8.1 (all editions)
  • Windows 8 (all editions)
  • Windows 7 SP1 (all editions)
  • Windows XP SP3 (32-bit) with limitations*

*New features of Acronis True Image 2016 (like Family Dashboard or Archiving) have not been tested on Windows XP SP3 32-bit and might not work correctly, although basic functionality fully supports this operating system.
Windows XP 64-bit is not supported.

Well, fellows, I took your reccomendation;  On my internet connected computer, for which I don't have a lisence, I created a bootable USB flash drive.  I took my flash drive to my computer which is not connected to the internet and booted it.  It came right up and I selected Acronis True Image and tried a full backup.  I got an error message saying that the version of Acronis I was running was a trial version and would not perform the backup.

Let me state the situation a little more clearly:

I purchased a license on my internet connected computer and with which I intended to license Acronis on my non internet connected computer.  The internet connected computer would not have a license because I don't intend to use Acronis on it.  When I tried to install Acronis on my non connected, Windows XP computer, it wouldn't install because SP3 is not installed.  I don't won't to install SP3 without first backing up the system.  I can't backup the system because I can't license Acronis.  So I'm stuck.

I thought about purchasing another license for my internet connected computer, but, I'm pretty sure that would fail because it would not be licensed for the Windows XP system.

Should I just give up and ask for my money back?

Jerry,

Did you activate the True Image product on your internet connected PC prior to using it to create the bootable USB flash drive?  If not have a look at the link below:

Yes I did, or I tried. Keep in mind I could not launch the program from the DVD.

I now have it working as I found the correct program that Acronis needed on my computer to run the Autorun feature when you place a DVD in the drive. It is mashta.exe. When I associated it as the program to use to open the DVD it installed.

Thank you for your help with this problem.
