Installing ATI 2016 after new hard drive and reinstalling Windows

Thread needs solution

I've purchased ATI 2016 for 3 computers + a backup DVD and I installed ATI 2016 on one computer, meaning two computers left. If I decide to get a new hard drive and reinstall Windows 7 Home Premium and decide to install ATI 2016 on that computer again, does that count as my 2nd computer or the 1st?

It will be the second.  However, you can log into your Acronis account and manage computers that have licenses and revoke the first instance to free it up again.  Once you use all three, if you try to install another instance, it will tell you to do this from within the application and point you there automatically as well.

Don't worry, you'll get to use them on 3 active computers - it just has safeguards in place to keep people from installing more instances than they've paid for, but doesn't limit you from using them after you've upgraded or re-installed as you change systems around.

"Too many activations" issue

Possible reasons for the issue:

  • You exceed the maximum number of computers with installed Acronis True Image 2016.

For example, you have a serial number for one computer and you install Acronis True Image on the second computer.

    Solutions:

    • Enter a new serial number. If you do not have it, you can buy it in the Acronis built-in store.
    • Move the license to your new computer from another one on which the product is already activated. To do this, select the computer from which you want to move the license. Note that Acronis True Image will be deactivated on that computer.
  • You reinstall Windows, or change hardware of your computer.

For example, you might upgrade motherboard or processor in your computer. Activation is lost, because Acronis True Image sees your computer as a new one.

    Solution:

To reactivate Acronis True Image on your computer, choose from the list the same computer by its old name.

How can I do it exactly? I'm not seeing any option on ATI 2016.

Hi Ned Thompson,

Bobbo is right, this will be detected as a second computer.

But don't worry, as soon as you will try to activate the license on the "fourth" computer, the software will just offer transferring the license from the first activated computer.

In order to do that just follow the wizard's instructions.
