List of backups disappear when restarting Acronis 2016

Thread needs solution

My list of backups dissapear when I close and reopen Acronis 2016. Also when I click on the "Add existing backup" arrow and go through the process of adding a backup, nothing happens. Also when I go to an existing backup file in File Explorer and click on "True Image / Mount", I get a window that states "Cannot assign a drive letter to a partition from the backup archive"  have also tried "Repair" and this makes no difference.

I have installed "Acronis Trueimage2016_addons

All help would be much appreciated as I am unable to do incremental backups as I have to reconfigure each new backup.

Hello Rusty,

This sounds like an unusual problem and not one that I personally have encountered in the forums recently with all the symptoms that you describe.

I would recommend doing a clean install of the latest ATIH 2016 build 6569 version - this has the Addons included in the installation media, so no need to install these separately

First uninstall the program via the Control Panel (or use an uninstaller such as Revo).

Run the Acronis Cleanup Tool (link in my signature below), then restart the computer.
Note: The KB document for the Cleanup Tool refers to checking for entries in the Windows registry - I have ignored this step on the occasions I have used it with no detriment, though if making changes to the registry, I strongly advise either exporting the registry before the change(s), or create a System Restore point, or image the drive for protection.

Reinstall the ATIH software (download a fresh copy from your Acronis Account if needed or if you don't have the latest build version installer).  Run the install as an Administrator (right-click on the installer to take this option).

Note 1: The cleanup tool will remove all your backup tasks and task history.  If you want to protect this information, then open C:\ProgramData\Acronis\TrueImageHome\ in Windows Explorer - this may be hidden on some systems - if so, go to the Folder option in the View pane and enable hidden files & folders).

Save a copy of the Database and Scripts folders to another location to restore back later.

Note 2: In order to restore the above folders & contents, you must stop all Acronis Services & Programs else you will encounter locked files in the Database folder.

You might wish to try simply renaming the database folder Steve mentions above to allow the app to rebuild the database to correct the issue.  Rename the folder to something like database.old using Windows Explorer.  Once done close open apps and reboot the PC, reopen True Image and see if things are back to normal.

Thank you Steve and Enchantech.
Apologies for delay in replying. My wife is not well these days and this takes up a lot of time,
I tried Enchantech's solution as it was the easiest. It solved the problem and ATI 2016 now works without a problem. Thanks again.

It is handy to know that there is a removal tool. I did try uninstalling and reinstalling however this did not work and of course I should have used the removal tool.
