Is my new backup plan a good one?

Thread needs solution

Hi All,

I'm still learning Acronis TIH 2016 so I have a question, I set up a custom backup plan that does an Incremental, which includes a full of course & 4 incrementals and then set up the cleanup to have a max of 6 days. Is that going to work properly, my thinking was for 5 days I'd have 1 full and 4 incrementals and on the 6th day I'd get another full and on the 7th day I'd create another incremental, I'd clean up my 1st full backup and the 4 incrementals (since they are no longer needed), is that correct thinking on my part or do I need a better thought out plan? Thanks for any advice or help!

The first day (day 1) of the "delete older than 6 days" is the day after last incrmental of the full plus 4 inc was performed.
Or, the first day of the "delete older than 6 days" is the day the 2nd Full (full B2) is completed.
Six full days must elapse after the last incremental of the Full + 4 incrementals before any deletion will occur.
So the delete of "delete older than 6 days" will not occur until after Full B3 has been completed.

Another option would be to choose the "Store no more than 1 recent version chaiin" which means the automatic deletion will occur following the creation of Full B2 with subsequent deletions after each future full.

If you have the storage space, I would discourage the quick deletin of old backups. Experience has shown that some time usually elapses before an error is discovered and you need those old backups to find a good file.

GroverH,

Thank you but I'm not not sure I follow. You said the first day of deletion would be after FULL B3 is completed and not as I thought after the first incremental after B2 full. I don't care, I have plenty of space on my External USB hard drive to store backups. I guess I don't understand the 6 days deletions with Incrementals then, if I do a full, then 4 incrementals and another full (5 days) then an incremental and then in my mind we could delete first full and following incrementals because U have a new full and an incremental BUT keeping everything to Full Backup 3 works better I guess...

Perhaps I am not understanding your backup scheme correctly.
Please confirm that your backs are daily or exactly how frequently run.
Also, post a capture of your bakup scheme.

OK,

I think I described it wrong the first time here is my backup http://screencast.com/t/o1Kkr7hquVZ

Will post back in 12-24 hrs.

OK?

Understand that this is my understanding of how the program works. I am user--not Acronis so these examples are simply my own interpretation from the test I have run in the past. You should run your own tests and come to your own conclusions.

Based on a schedule of daily; Full plus 4 incremental; Delete older than 5 days.

This example is what I believe you can expect of your selected settings.

Should you desire to make changes to your settings, my recommendation would be to start with new tasks with new task names and new folders so the results are not influenced by happenings of prior tasks. Editing an eisting "in use" task simply does not produce the expected results.
