One last chance - Backups Failing

Thread needs solution

I'm willing to give Acronis one last chance but i am not real confident of its reliability.

My setup is a Window 7 PC with a 1tb USB deive attached.  I am running a backup of only specific Data folders on my PC and it will back them up one or twice but then randomly if the PC is rebooted or the USB drive unplugged and replugged the backups will never work again and validations of the existing backups fail also.

It is very frustrating as i am looking for a reliable product to just backup Data to my USB drive.  The only thing i get from this software is we are offering a discount on an upgrade.  The backups i have been trying to get stable for months is not working os why would i upgrade?

Has anyone seen this issue.  Sometimes i get no error message other times it says unable to find the backup file.

Oliver, welcome to these user forums.

I would recommend downloading / using the MVP Log Viewer tool (link in my signature) which will allow you to see what messages are being written to the task log for your data backup to the USB drive, and may give a better understanding why these are failing.

One common cause is simply because the USB drive is given a different drive letter by Windows when you next plug it in, i.e. your backup is set to store the archive data on drive E: but the USB drive gets given drive letter F: because you had another USB device attached which took the E: letter.

You can preallocate a specific drive letter for your USB drive by going into Windows Disk Management when the drive is connected, then using the option there to change the drive letter to give it one which is later in the alphabet, one that is unlikely to be taken by another device, i.e. drive S: or U: etc.

If you need help with reading the task log files content then please attach a copy of these to the forum post.
