Operation paused: the specified file does not exist

Thread needs solution

I started getting this 'Operation paused: the specified file does not exist' error yesterday in my Windows 7 machine.  It was after a lot of Windows updates that ended in a request to make a Windows restore point, so could it be that Windows restore is still running and conflicting with Acronis backup?  I've not been able to find any Acronis logs that highlight a particular file, any leads very much appreciated!

Thanks,

Alex

Have tried to reboot your machine since creating the restore point?

It could be that this will dump the VSS cache files for the newly created restore point and in turn restore the funvtionality of True Image.

Thanks for the quick reply.  I've rebooted my machine a few times over the last few days and it's still a problem.

Can Acronis give more information about the file it's failing to backup?  Perhaps it's caused by something that was deleted during Windows update.

Go to my computer >>> Properties >>>> System protection

Under protection settings, does it show more than one C: drive or just the one?  I've seen it list C twice and have had to remove both (losing restore points, but they don't work anyway when it's like that).  Then add the C: drive again and it usually works fine after that.   If there is just the one C: drive like it should be, is it enabled or disabled?  If enabled, you may still want to disable and re-enable to delete the existing restore points and create one right after that. Then try  running the backup again.

Thanks, it shows just one C drive.  Protection is on for C and off for D.  I'd like to drill into it a bit more before deleting restore points... does Acronis have an error log I can refer to?

Look for logs in C:\ProgramData\Acronis\TrueImageHome\Logs folder - this may be hidden on some systems.

The logs are in XML text format and can be viewed using Notepad.  There may also be some logs at the C:\ProgramData\Acronis\ level too that you could check.

Hello hoyk,

And if you specify the backup source and target location in the backup plan anew, does the issue persists?

Thank you,

Thanks, the XML log didn't give any more information but starting anew has got it working.  That suggests to me it's not anything to do with the backup operation failing to find a particular file or folder, but instead just Acronis could not find the .tib file on my NAS.  Most likely I broke it last week whilst investigating configuration settings and it only manifested itself a week later when the backup was triggered.  It's coincidence it happened just after all the Windows Update malarkey.

As a feature request, it would be great if Acronis could store the full .tib path as an XML attribute in the logs.  It would help diagnose which backup is in error if this sort of thing happens in future.

I've got 1 full backup now and 2 incrementals.  Pending the next full backup going through it looks like it's working OK.

Thanks to everyone for the help!

Alex

Hello Alex, reference your feature request, the full .tib path is stored in the log XML data - if you would like to attach a copy of one of your service_ logs, I will format it and send you a PM with your full path that it contains.
