Password protected TIB file opens without password

Thread needs solution

I backed up my data, and let the PC shutdown when the backup had completed. After reboot, I tried to access the TIB file using Windows 10 explorer. Since I had set a password and encryption, it prompted me for the password, and successfully displayed the data. After looking at the data in the and being satisfied that it was intact. I then unmounted the USB drive, mounted it again, and I was still able to see the TIB file contents. I put the computer to sleep, which requires a password on wakeup, and I couls still see the TIB file contents. Do I have to reboot Windows before the data is once again protected? This doesn't seem like good security? What do I need to do after looking at a file before it is once again password protected? Other apps have timeouts or always ask for a password.

See the lnik below concerning password protection.  I believe that password protection is per session so closing out the app and restarting it should trigger the requirement for password.

Thanks. I've already read the documentation as I experimented with this problem The "app" is Windows explorer. I don't want to have to shut down Windows every time I access a protected TIB file.

If you do it from within the app, you will be prompted each time after closing and opening the app again.

Once you mount a .tib in Windows Explorer, Windows does seem to keep hold onto it.  I tried killing Windows explorer and it still didn't prompt for cedentials when I opened the .tib again.  I killed tibmounter.exe and  Windows Explorer still did not prompt for credentials.  I locked and unlocked the system and it still doesn't prompt for credentials again.

At first, I missed it in Windows Credential Manager (control panel).  However, I had a feeling it was there, and it is.  Look under "Generic Credentials" for anything with "AcronisTI_shell" and delete those and then you'll be prompted for credentials again.

After closing the explorer window and leaving the PC for a while, it did ask for a password, so it appears that it times out. I'll experiment with it, to see how long it takes, but I'm happy with knowing tht it won't reopen the file without the password. Thanks for the help. I'll also look at credentail manager to see what I can learn about it. Thanks!
