Problem Backing up to an external USB Drive
Hello,
Although i bought Acronis i long time ago, only recently i started to use it..and im constantly facing the same problem..
I have an external drive (for example G:) to which i saved my backup...and everytime i finish the backup, i tend to then disconnect this Drive due to common power issues in my region...problem starts when i plug it in again after say, 1 or 2 days and wanna do incremental backups...it will change the drive letter (now it can be I: for example) because i might have another flash or usb drive connected at that moment that took over the drive letter the first one had..this is very common..
Even if i redirect acronis to the new location, it will want to start a full Backup all over again...and i already have 6 files in there..the full(1) and the incrementals (5)...
What can i do for Acronis to recognize the files and just continue updating incrementally?
if the name of the first full backup is "Entire PC (MSI)_full_b1_s1_v1.tib", it will create a "Entire PC (MSI)_full_b1_s1_v2.tib"

To allocate a constant drive letter to your USB drive, do the following:
- plug the UBS drive in the machine,
- launch the windows disk management console (you can search for "partitions" as on win10, the tools is name "create and format hard disk partitions" control panel)
- right click on the hatched area corresponding to your USB disk
- choose change drive letter and paths
- assign a drive letter towards the end of the alphabet (Steve is proposing letter "U" above, but it can be anything)
- then set ATI (True IMage) to store the backup on that disk. NOTE: it is advisble to start a new backup task on that disk, otherwise ATI will think you have different archive files on different disks and will ask you for these disks when you restore.
