Problem Running a 2nd day Scheduled Backup without a reboot
Hi All,
OK this problem just started with the newest version update Build 6027. I have a nightly full backup which has been running flawlessly. Now under new build 6027, if I run it after a reboot today, it works fine, if I don't reboot my computer after it runs, I get an error like this: The drive is ready, so I don't get the error, after I reboot everything is good again

Any idea's why this is happening, if I run TI2016 today and restart the computer after the backup, it does NOT happen on next scheduled scan tomorrow.

GroverH,
That is definitely NOT the problem, I have turned off ALL hybernate/sleep options in Windows 10 in power options. I have ATI 2016 to wake computer and the usb disk is a USB hard drive External

Could the previous run of ATI 2016 somehow keep a lock on my K: drive for some reason which is a WD external USB drive, nothing else uses that drive except Acronis to store my Acronis backups. I don't even scan it with my A/V or Malwarebytes as it only holds backups. I hope someone can shed some light on this...

One way or the other, the problem is the disk. Should you have any issues when accesing NAS by the name, do the following: specify your NAS using UNC-path: \\NASname\ShareName specify it by the IP address, e.g. \\IPofNAS\ShareName The cause could be an issue with the usb3 connection, which may be dropping out or at sleep. I would investiage the usb3 disk to to make sure that is not happening. Disable the sleep option on the USB3 disk. I have attached several links as examples. Another place to look is the Start progams/Western Digital menus. Often times there is listed a WD utility which is used in changing the sleep times on Western Digital external disks.

Change the device manager for sure as per the above link.

Also, try another cable and make sure the cable connector is fully seated into the computer. Push firmly on both ends just to make sure.

Hi GroverH,
I've done all the things listed in your post, I did find that all the root hub devices had checked to allow the computer to turn the device off to save power, so I unchecked each of those. I also rebooted my computer which means my 4AM Tue scheduled backup will not fail and if the problem holds true my 4AM Wed. backup will fail. Thank you VERY much for your detailed help!

Can you provide more details about the WD storage disk in question Did you check if your start menu had any Western Digital items listed?
Also, examine your Device Manager/Universal Serial Bus Controllers and see if any of the devices have ! or anything to indicate the device has a problem.

Hi GroverH,
I do not have any WD items listed in the start menu. It's a 1TB USB drive, this is what my computer sees it as screenshot
I wonder why it would work this morning(it did) but most likely not work tomorrow morning? That's to be seen at 4AM tomorrow morning...

Can you provide more details about the model number of the WD storage disk.
Simulate editing the backup task and look at scheduler settings under the advanced setting
make sure the "Prevent the computer from going to sleep/hibernate" IS CHECKED.
make sure the "backup only when comptuer is idle" IS NOT CHECKED
and if you have a setting to "Wake the computer", this option shouold be checked.
if you make no changes, click the cancel option, but if you make chanes, clcik the ok save button.
Here are some additional things to check in your control panel/power configuratin
Wake timers must be enabled.

Hi,
The USB drive P/N is wdbaau0010hbk-01
Here is a screenshot of my advanced options screenshot
My wake timers are enabled in power plan screenshot
Again, I wonder why it would work one day and not the next if any of the settings were wrong?

I don't know. Is the WD drive one of those which gets it power from the usb3 connector?

No it has a separate power supply

GroverH,
My backup may NOT fail tomorrow as I suggested previously because I had a power dip in my building this afternoon and I had to reboot computer, then on reboot, I had a windows 10 update KB3122947 which failed install after reboot, I finally got that installed so tomorrow morning (Wed) 4AM backup most likely won't fail because of the reboot today & now the Thur morning 4AM backup will fail, again if the problem pervails...just an FYI...

Steve,
Can you confirm your WD model number listing on the bottom of the drive?

GroverH,
It's the p/n I listed in post #9 wdbaau0010hbk-01

OK I give up,
Backup failed again this morning at 4AM
I've changed the 4AM backup to shut the computer down when finished. Then when I wake up, I'll just reboot the computer at 5-6AM and the next days 4AM backup will again run just fine at 4AM, pretty sure this is NOT the way ATIH 2016 is supposed to work just another of the ongoing weird bugs that can't be solved easily. I can live with it...Thanks for all your patients GroverH, very much appreciated!!

As this started with 2016, the last step would be to run the TI 2015 cleanup utility (my signature link 4 below) which will remove all of 2016 from your system. Afterwards, you can reset a new task with a new name and new folder name.
You might also want to consider putting a piece of tape on the WD power connector where the power cord plugs into the disk. I had to dump an external disk similar to your because the metal plug would not keep a tight connection.
But before you do,
I am assuming that the log file shows the compuer awakened but the disk was not available.
You might consider creating a Windows Task Scheduler task to run a simple batch file to awaken the computer and maybe check the WD directory to assure computer is awake and disk is active.
The Windows task schduler could start a bat file with
K:
DIR
EXIT
or something similar just as a test of get it all working again.
Good luck.
