Scheduled Backups Do Not Run

Thread needs solution

I am using TrueImage 2016 on a Windows 10  laptop PC with a networked disk attached to my router. I have two regularly scheduled (weekly) backups that never seem to run on their schedule. The laptop gets used almost daily but is often turned off. My wife is the regular user of the laptop but every few weeks I check the status of things on the system. When I start TrueImage, it show the scheduled backups and the last time that they ran (which always seems to be the last time I ran them manually). When I click the "Run Now" button, the backups seem to run just fine but the scheduled ones never run. I also run TrueImage on my Desktop Windows 10 PC and the scheduled backups seem to run just fine. The backup settings appear to be the same on both computers. Any thoughts on what is going on?

Jim, please download the Log File Viewer app from the forum and check the logs for the scheduled backups to see if they have actually been attempted to run or not?  You can also use the app to look at the other logs that ATIH produces, included those for the Scheduler.

You are welcome to post a zip file with logs if you want help with understanding their content.

Could you also post some screenshots of the different tabs of your backup job?  There are options to run backups right after a missed schedule (like if the system was asleep or turned off when it was scheduled).

Hopefully, your logs and screenshots provide some more info to work with and we can go from there before resorting to the

or the

I have the same or at least a similar problem. There are two tasks (VolumeBkUp and FileBkUp) scheduled for different times (19:00 and 20:00 hrs). At the scheduled time there seems to be some short activity and when I check the program I see the red/cross-symbol saying that the backup has failed (no further explanation). Starting the same backup manually works perfectly well.

So I think the scheduler itself is working but the backup is not.

Herbert, as advised to Jim above, please download the Log File Viewer app from the forum and check the logs for the scheduled backups to see if they have actually been attempted to run or not?  You can also use the app to look at the other logs that ATIH produces, included those for the Scheduler.

Yesterday it worked. The task was even executed out of standby mode. I'll observe it for the next two days and get back to the forum afterwards.

It does not work every time. The scheduler starts the backup, but it does not back-up. When the ATI program is already active, the symbol between source and destination changes immediately to red (see attached screenshot). When the ATI is not active, you just see some short activities on the HDD-LED and then it stops (after starting ATI it also shows the red symbol).

Manual start from the ATI-program-surface is always successful.

About the log-files: they are only created when the backup really starts and works. Those failed attempts do not create a log file.

I tried to establish under which circumstances it does or does not work:

If the computer is in use or on stand-by after normal use - it fails

If the computer is switched off (fast shut-down in Win10) and started again - it fails

If the computer is switched off by using the re-start option and there are no other activities before the scheduled backup time - it works.

So I suspect the problem lies with an interference of other programs/services.

Herbert, there are a couple of choices of how to proceed with this problem.

1.  Collect an Acronis System Report and post the zip file to the forum so that we can take a look to see if there is anything obvious that might be causing the problem.

2.  Perform a clean install of ATIH 2016 to effect a full clean start and see if there are any issues beyond that point.

Perform a clean install of ATIH 2016

First uninstall the program via the Control Panel (or use an uninstaller such as Revo).

Run the Acronis Cleanup Tool (link in my signature below), then restart the computer.
Note: The KB document for the Cleanup Tool refers to checking for entries in the Windows registry - I have ignored this step on the occasions I have used it with no detriment, though if making changes to the registry, I strongly advise either exporting the registry before the change(s), or create a System Restore point, or image the drive for protection.

Reinstall the ATIH software (download a fresh copy from your Acronis Account if needed or if you don't have the latest build version installer).  Run the install as an Administrator (right-click on the installer to take this option).
It is also recommended to suspend your security programs (antivirus, anti-malware etc) during the install as these programs can cause Access Denied errors for the Acronis installer program.

Note 1: If you have purchased an Upgrade version of ATIH 2016 you will be asked for two serial numbers during the install - one for 2016 and one for the previous version that the upgrade is based on, i.e. 2015.

Note 2: The cleanup tool will remove all your backup tasks and task history.  If you want to protect this information, then open C:\ProgramData\Acronis\TrueImageHome\ in Windows Explorer - this may be hidden on some systems - if so, go to the Folder option in the View pane and enable hidden files & folders).

Save a copy of the Database and Scripts folders to another location to restore back later.

Note 3: In order to restore the above folders & contents, you must stop all Acronis Services & Programs else you will encounter locked files in the Database folder.

Hello Steve,

Thanks for your good advise. It works now perfectly well. Even out of stand-by.
