Software that pops up advertisment in windows?

Thread needs solution

Today i got a popup for a "one time deal" that leads me to a offer for acronis cloud.

I call this AD ware and not a serious backup program.

Does Acronis really want to kill last bands that hold me to use it?

It's obvious that Acronis has turned into adware with forced ads for a cloud service that was never wanted. If I wanted it, I would buy it, but forced ads will be comething to consider for future purchases, and I see no reason to buy adware.

Yes, very annoying! Crashes my game sometimes!!

Block with your firewall or hosts file:

Will that block program update notices or the ability to download updates from within the program?

No - afaik

but it looks like acronis has stopped this sh.. for the moment

I am uninstalling do to all these ads..  I will never buy again. Way to ruin a great product Acronis.

Acronis you need to listen to your paying customers! Stop these ads now, we have all paid for your product and do not want to see any advertising popus from you! I have been a customer for the last 10 years, but this too much. If you do not give us an option to stop ads, you have just lost another loyal customer :(

I agree, popping up cloud screen is very annoying and why always changing the GUI ? Best Version for me was Acronis 2010...

agree -- do not need adware -- when we are buying for our backup software

Agreed, extremely annoying.  Acronis support is not reading this thread i think.  The interface also very difficult to use, i missed the old acronis.

Nope. Just got an ad on my laptop.

I have been a long-time customer, recommended the software, and even bought the program outright for others to ensure their systems would get backed up. But you put revenue above your users by displaying intrusive ads that cannot be opted out of. And for years each release of True Image has been dumbed down more and more, useful features have been lost, and critical bugs not addressed.

I'm done with your company and its products.

Acronis may be 'reading' these posts, Anna does, BUT, the company has stopped 'listening' to customers. Like so many, they are riding on an 'old' reputation as number 1 back from the days when there were few other choices for home user image backup. ATI 2014 had issues, ATI 2015 had even more and ATI 2016 has even more issues for many more users. Just read the pages of the forum. For myself 2015 and 2016 were not usable, would not complete a backup, too many issues to solve, no real help to solve them and shouldn't have to really work at it anyway. When I buy a camera, it should take pictures. Maybe it will need a firmware update. When I buy an image backup and restore program, it should complete making a backup, and restore it. Maybe it will need a patch because a number of users encounter the same issue. Nothing is perfect. But when a number of users have a number of different issues, apparently unsolvable, and other similar programs do work, it's a badly written program.

Now, stick in some adware toast during the install, and it is a slap in the face to loyal users who have made the company what it was when it was great. I have been refunded for one copy and using Macrium Reflect Fee and moving to their home version. Works, seemingly interested company wanting the number 1 spot.

These ads are extremely irritating and unacceptable for a product that I have purchased.  If I can't find a way to stop them I will request a refund.  Terrible!!

Very, very anoying these pop-up's. I would not expect that from a paid software product, certainly not from a German product.

I find this highly unacceptable to the point where I am looking for another product.   If we are going to pay for software, we should NOT be subject to advertisements.   This is very inappropriate Acronis!    And such a shame that you stoop to this level.

I'm getting this desktop spam from Acronis every darn day.

I bought your product, please stop spamming me about your other product I don't care about.

I am seriously considering going to a competitor over this.  The UI has already been dumbed down in this version.  The desktop spam takes the cake.

OK, so I admit that I was hoping that if enough peeps complained Acronis would certainly send out an update to correct the cloud signin at startup and the popup advertising. Afterall what company would want to be on the leading edge of incorporating adware into their paid-for product.

Unfortunately my bet that enought voices of condemnation would prevail and now my refund period has expired. So now I search the forums looking for modifications to firewalls to resolve the problem.

Fact is, if there are others out there who are waiting for change to occur, we need you to make your voices heard. My motives may be selfish because I am now "stuck" with what I have, but don't be waiting for others to step up or you will be in the same boat as me. ATIH really is a great product. Such a shame to be on the bleeding edge. However, I'm afraid that until we create a real response for change, we will be left searching for work arounds, refunds or competitive offerings.

No side effects yet...

how to edit "hosts"?
start notepad "as admin" - file open - navigate to C:\Windows\System32\drivers\etc - change selection "textfiles" to "all files" - open "hosts" - paste
127.0.0.1 web-api-tih.acronis.com
as a single line at the end of file - save/overwrite - done
you might have to remove write-protection and/or disable your av/firewall to be able to overwrite

While I agree this is a "workaround," the problem remains  (and thank you for posting it!).   This is an unconscionable practice on behalf of Acronis.    How poorly do you treat your customers before they all quit on you.

The good thing is I am still in my refund period, so I think I am going to ask for a refund, unless someone from Acronis pipes in and at least acknowldeges this issue.

I Yesterday had a Chat with Acronis about this issue.....

solution was to activate dont show this again and at leas same advertisement will not be shown again :-(

They listen to cusomers but as long as we by this product thy will not change anything....

Works for me too.  Be sure to run notepad as administrator to be able to save in Windows 10.  This will end the cloud sign in window completely and not affect updates.  Cloud backup will no longer be available (who wants to put all the personal info on Acronis servers anyway!).  Backups seem to still work.  Hopefully it takes care of the ads.  So far so good.

A shame we have to use a workaround...

And how would one activate "don't show this again?"  It was not an option on the ads that I saw.  They only had "Learn More" and "Decide Later."  I don't need to decide later!  I have all the Acronis stuff I need, and I certainly would not buy anything from an ad in a paid product.  I could see nags or ads in a free version, but that is not what we are talking about here. (The same applies to you, Microsoft, for that adware abomination you call Windows 10).

And this sign in nag for the cloud has to go too.  It's advertising for a feature I don't want and would rather have removed anyway if that was an option.  You just released a new build and this nag is still in it, even with multiple threads here with people telling Acronis that this has to go.  Maybe this new release has been "in the pipe" so long that any more fixes like that were locked out until the next version; a simple message to that effect would work wonders.

I have been a (mostly satisfied) True Image user since 6.0, and I've never been so frustrated that I had to come on these forums and complain about it before, in the hopes that Acronis will listen and make the product better.
