Tried to disable Startup Recovery Manager - now PC won't boot

Thread needs solution

Windows 10 - Acronis True Image 2016
Wanted to use Try&Decide. It gave a message that Startup Recovery Manager could not run at the same time. Tried stopping Startup Recovery Manager and got an error message. Try&Decide still gave a message that Startup Recovery Manager could not run at the same time. Tried stopping Startup Recovery Manager again and got the error message again. Decided to try restartingthe PC and and now it won't boot up. Sorry, I don't have the error message number.

Thanks for any help.

Kelli, welcome to these user forums.

Have you got a full system backup from before the changes made to disable ASRM or start Try & Decide?

Have you created the Acronis bootable Rescue Media?

If you have both the rescue media and a full backup, then you could boot from the rescue media and try restoring the MBR and Track 0 from your backup to your system drive to see if this will help to get your computer to boot correctly again.

What version of Windows OS do you have installed on your PC?  Do you have a Windows System Repair or Windows Installation disc that you can use to attempt a Startup Repair (assuming you are running Windows 7 or later)?

More information is needed to know how to try to help you beyond the above suggestions / questions.

When you say the PC won't boot, what exactly does it do, what messages are given, how far into the boot process does it get etc?  Screen shots are also helpful if you can capture them with either a digital camera or mobile phone camera.

I did do a full backup before I rebooted, but it is only showing me a backup from August.

I do have the Acronis bootable media.

I doon't want to have to restore from August if I don't need to. How do I restore the MBR and Track 0?

I'm running Windows 10 and there is a partition on my PC that has the installtion files. I also have a Windows 10 boot DVD I created, but not sure how to just try and fix the MBR.

When the PC doesn't boot, it just comes up with a message that it is trying to boot from USB and/or CD (it can't find what it needs to boot from the hard drive).

Thank you,

Kelli

So I did find my full backup, but a restore of MBR and Track 0 doesn't change anything.

Kelli,

If your backup of a MBR/legacy OS install or a UEFI install (what paritions are listed in your backup?)  HOw you boot the recovery media will determine the disk layout during the recovery.  If the install was legacy you need to boot the recovery media in legacy.  If the OS was installed UEFI, you need to boot the recovery media in UEFI mode.  After determing your OS install type from your backup image (attach a camera pic if need be here), then use your system one-time boot menu to make sure you are specifically picking the proper boot method.  Please see the screenshots in this thread for examples:
