Windows 10 shuts down before True Image back up. Please help.

Thread needs solution

Hi,

I need to run a daily backup each time I shutdown, but Windows 10 shuts down before True Image backs up (even though I selected the option "Shut down the computer after the backup is complete"). Any suggestions please?

Thanks

That option is only for shutting down the computer after the backup is done. It does not force Windows to launch Acronis before or during the shut-down process. I start my backup manually before I go to bed, tick the shutdown box, start the backup and go to bed. When the backup is done the computer shuts down.

I am not sure how the Acronis scheduler works, but I hope that it works by creating a Windows task that starts the backup. If that is true (and if all my guesswork is correct), you should be able to:

  1. Schedule a backup using Acronis starting at midnight each day.
  2. Mark it with "Shutdown after the backup is complete".
  3. Use Windows hibernation (or maybe sleep?) instead of shutting down when you are done

With a bit of luck, the PC will wake up from its sleep/hibernation at midnight, start the backup, and then shutdown for real.

I previously used the scheduler in True Image 10 running in XP to run the back up when I selected shutdown. This opened True Image and delayed shut down until the back up completed. The options are all the same in True Image 2016, so I expected the same result! Thanks for suggestion and yes this is a possible workaround. However, the scheduler should work.

I think this is a mistake with the product.

If the Acronis scheduler is not integrated with Windows, then you could do it the other way around. Create a task in Windows that wakes up the PC 10 minutes before the backup job from Acronis is scheduled to start. Acronis is then responsible for starting the backup and shutting the PC down afterwards.

Seems like you can also use the Group Policy Editor (Alt + R, gpedit.msc) to specify actions to be run at shutdown:

I have only verified that gpedit.msc exists on my machine and that (empty) scripts exists for startup/shutdown exists as described above. I have no idea if you can create a long-running job like a backup and have Windows wait for it to complete before continuing with the shutdown process. It might only be suitable for jobs that last a few seconds.

I just upgraded to Windows 10 from Windows 8.1.  No problems with win 8.1.  I have True Image 2015 Build 6613.  Now, when I clone a drive the 'shutdown the computer when completed' button is no longer automatically checked.  I manually check the button.  But no matter whether the button is checked or unchecked the computer does not shutdown and Acronis does not end.  Keep getting error window "Acronis Bootable Agents waiting for removable devices" with a YES NO and CANCEL button to select.  No matter which one is selected the error window keeps appearing after the computer reboots.  The computer will restart and Acronis will be in an endless loop.  Must hard shut down the computer, up to 2 times to get it out of the Acronis cycle and back to the computer settings.

Al, what you're looking for is the sheduling option System shutdown or restart.

Edit your backup plan (or create a new one) and on the Schedule tab select "Upon event", then "System shutdown or restart".
