Application(s) very slow after installing ATI 2017 Subscription Premium

Thread needs solution

By default ATI 2017 Subscription Premium monitors all active programs, particularly ones that make changes to data. If you trust the particular application, add it to the exclusions list in Settings. My experience suggests that video editing applications may be caught, particularly if they are relatively obscure; in my case it was an application called TFtool (used with recording for Topfield PVRs).

So Basically my slow computer is now doublely slow due to Acronis monitoring all my programs.  Is Acronis now in the AVirus, AMalware, Anti-Ransomeware Business as to compete with Malwarebytes or Norton.  Isn't there a way to protect my data without slowing my computer down to a double crawl?

This is insane. EVERYTHING on my computer now runs slower. And I mean everything.....from browsers to file copy programs. There is no way I'm going to exclude most all the executables....why did I buy it in the first place? One thing's for sure....I'm going back to my "old generation" TI never to return to NG unless there is some strong evidence that the problem(s) have been fixed.

Douglas, Kurt, I would recommend opening a Support Case for these issues with 2017 NGen and the Premium features for ransomware protection.

In the interim, there are two flavours of 2017 NGen, Standard which doesn't have the ransomware, etc features, and Premium which does, so you could go with the Standard version rather than backing out altogether whilst Acronis work on your Support Case(s).

You can also limit the protection to protecting backup files (*.tib) and presumably ATI installation. This should solve the problem.

I have noticed printing files (mainly pdf) is very slow. Acrobat can become unresponsive. Not sure if this only started after installing build 6116. Will do further testing and report back.

OK, my printing issues are definitely caused by the Anti-malware module. Turn it off and I can print as before. If I try to print pdf files the app freezes - seen with with two different pdf viewing apps.

Hi Steve,   I already had ATI 2017 standard and was having issues including the Scheduler2 module causing my date to change normally forward by 1 day which threw everything else out of sync including MB3 and Norton, and Restore point dates.

I have now upgraded to ATI 2017 NG and so far the date problem is not returning and hopefully the other backdoor holes for the hacker attempts have also been closed.

Thanks for the info,  Kurt

One other comment,  In my AMD slow computer I did select MBAM, MBAE, MBARW all to trusted and it seems to have helped,  maybe a figment of my imagination but think it did. lol

Kurt, glad to hear that things look to going better with using the 2017 NG and other changes.  I have to say again that I have never known any 'backdoor holes for hacker attempts' in this or any other Acronis products nor seen any reports of the same.  I am saying this purely as a user like yourself, I have no reason to defend Acronis if this were a risk their products were exposing myself or other users to.

I have a similar problem with beta build I was testing on another PC. I have the problem on 2 out of 3 PCs; the only difference I noticed is that those two have Brother Printer Utilities installed for my Brother Laser MFC.

Hi Steve,    I never had much reason to believe Acronis had a backdoor until I decided that maybe Ease+us might be easier to use to transfer a computer OS along with everything else from one hard drive to the other without any issues, which I did and it worked great.  However after downloading products of said company I seem to notice weird things going on I related to Acronis,  AND in my paranoid state I do believe there is some market competition which may include serious unethical practices by said company to attack Acronis customers, if so, with the purpose of driving them away from Acronis and into their software.  To me this is borne out by the very situation that Acronis , of all software considerations needs to include ransomware and perhaps an AV in it's product to keep from losing this Software battle.  The situation if someone can hijack your back-ups and you have an issue where you cannot restore from a back-up without a secret code only provided by the ransomware cronies, which may be a black label division of so called otherwise legitament companies.  So not less than a few hours ago I have had pop-ups from this Acronis NG on two separate computers on the one telling me I was saved from an attack, telling me Acronis has gone out of date, and also that NORTON engine tried to change something in Acronis all of which were repelled properly I guess. On the computer I am now on, Acronsis less than an hour ago Acronis pops up and says "Acronis service is not available"  I wonder now if I have INVITED different entities TO ATTACK ME by using the NG.    I also wonder who really owns Acronis nowadays is it the Germans, Chinese, Indians?  Who are they?  Are they  after Americans to take advantage of OUR GIGANTIC LACK of laws to protect us from companies and people trying to swindle money out of us Americans?  These seem to me very legitament questions which need to be answered since being honest may not be so profitable anymore, especially if your a software company and can hide all your gimmicks to get people to buy the next best product.  So maybe Acronis has a black label division, why not?, I would be very surprised if they didn't, in fact,  I really don't see any reason for any company to play by the moral rules, And according to all our User Licenses, We basically say they can rip us off at will anytime they choose.  So only DJTrump can save us from this insanity.. IF HE can get someone to agree we must protect ourselves first and foremost in cyber security.

If you think there is a (possibility?) back-door, I encourage you to report your concerns to Acronis via the in-App feedback module. It may be useful to include a system report with any such report.

Ian

Kurt, when submitting feedback to Acronis, you have the ability to attach files.  Screen captures of any popup messages would help.  Also, if you could post those screen captures to this thread, I am sure all of us would be interested in seeing them.

FtrPilot

 Hi FtrPilot,

The problem with giving you a Screen Print on these pop-ups is that they do not last,  they come up and within 1 second or less their going back down, just quick enough to read it but  I will try my best to catch the next ones for you guys.

No problem, I usually use Photoimpression to capture screenshots so that I can automatically cut out what I don't want but I will use the PrtSc next time.

Kurt

Hello Kurt,

Thank you for describing your experience with the software in details.

We are actively working on fixing all the found issues with the new feature, Active Protection. None of the previous versions the True Image product line ever had such functionality. As a result, we are getting reports about problems that have not been explored yet. The same symptom (PC's performance degradation, issues with printing) might have a number of completely different root causes in the product code. If you want to help us in the investigation of issues with the Active Protection, please submit a support ticket through this form.

Regards,

Slava

Hi Everyone,  Just wanted to show you guys one of the pop-ups I've had recently,  Kurt

Kurt, is there a log to go with it to show what specfically triggered the notification?  Log files for aniprotection are located in the hidden folder:

C:\ProgramData\Acronis\ActiveProtection\Logs

HI Bobbo,   Here is a list of logs in that folder

Here is another Screen shot from my other computer saying my Acronis subscription is no longer active ,  when the fact is that I have a 5 computer subscription and just renewed this month with NG

Here is the companion Screen shot of Acronis logs from that computer

Tell me which ones you want and I will attach them.

I was thinking more along the lines of the actual log file - the contents within it may have more clues of what's running and being blocked at that exact moment.  Possibly nothing we can do from this end in the user forum, but the details in the logs may show more of what's going on.

Bobbo, As I mentioned in my PM any of the log files in the list which you think might be helpful I will supply.

Kurt,

Just an observation, I see in the screenshot of your desktop that you have McAfee Security, Norton Security, Malwarebytes Anti-Ransomware, and EaseUS Todo backup installed on there.  Might I suggest that these applications are conflicting with each other and triggering the warnings you are seeing?

Kurt, ditto to Enchantech, please ensure that you only have one active Security suite or else check that any others that you have will 'play nicely' when they encounter other similar security software.

If such as the McAfee is an inactive, run on demand program then fine, but if any of these are doing realtime scans etc, then this can definitely case conflicts.

Hi Guys,

All suggestions are 100% Welcome and appreciated.   The McAfee scans runs once per week and as far as I know has no active real-time scanning.

The Ease Todo back-up has never been ran.  I put it on this computer to create a back-up, that is eventually when I get another SSD, in order to transfer this entire computer to it,  however I will say that I think EaseUs is super powerful and like I mentioned above capable of affecting Acronis.  Is there a record of issues between Acronis and EaseUs software?

I will uninstalled McAffee right now so that is no longer any kind of issue between them

But I would like to have more info or read any blog here or Aconis warning about EaseUs issues.  Thanks again, Kurt

The scheduling of a scan is separate from ongoing monitoring of actvity which most virus scanners now do by default. So there is always a possibility of conflict.

Ian

Kurt, I am not aware of any specific issues or conflicts from having both Acronis and Easeus Todo installed, though I have only used the free version of the latter when I have tried it.  I do have some systems which have both Acronis and Macrium installed / active (on schedule) as belt & braces is always a good practise!

The real possibility of a conflict comes from any added / extended capabilities that these products may introduce, i.e. with the Active Protection introduced with ATIH 2017 New Generation Premium version.  I did some beta testing of this and found pop-up messages for some software that I use which was surprise to me as it was effectively just showing CPU usage akin to using Windows Task Manager, but must have had some hooks in lower in the OS to gather data.

I suspect that Active Protection is still very much a 'work in progress' in some aspects, as I have never had similar pop-ups from my normal Internet Security suite or other anti-exploit or anti-ransomware software that I use.

Submit a support case (if not already done so) so that Acronis can investigate any strange behaviour associated with Active Protection as this has a high priority / focus with them at this time!

Hi Steve,

I noticed when I moved an "Acronis back-up file" to another folder that an Acronis pop-up came up said that Internet Explorer tried to change Acronis,  so yes I agree Acronis has some deep roots in Windows with our given permission evidently.

I removed McAfee from my computer and still getting pop-ups as Acronis Subscription expired started a new thread just for this issue of pop-ups, if only to let others know ..we know it is happening,  can't say that I care much about putting in a support case since as you say ..they are already working on it... but can at least document some of the actions for them to see here as I expect they watch this forum for new information.

Kurt, you can use the in app Feedback tool to report these issues if you prefer not to open a support case for them, then they will be logged in their systems, plus reference this forum topic too to pin-point where they should look for further details.
