ATI 2017 Refuses to do Incremental Backups

Thread needs solution

Hello all,

For some reason I cannot get ATI to do an incremental backup from a full one I did 2 days ago.

It doesn;t matter it I have the options/backup scheme set to "Create only incremental versions after the initial full version" or "Create a full version after (x) incremental versions". It still does a full backup anyway.

I have one file called "11th February_full_b1_s1_v1.tib". When I start backing up again (either setting) a file "11th February_full_b1_s1_v1-1.tib" is created.

Tearing my hair out over this (Acronis 11 was so easy to use, why oh why was it changed??)

I hope soneone may be able to help.

Cheers

Ian, welcome to these public User Forums.

What steps are you using here?

The normal method of creating an Incremental backup is to choose this as the Backup scheme when you initially create a new backup task.  All new tasks will create a Full backup file on the first run, then will follow the backup scheme when further backups are created.

See the ATI 2017 User Guide section on Custom schemes

Select this method if you want to create backup chains containing only full and incremental backup versions.

Incremental
You can configure the scheme by using one of the following options:

  • Create only incremental versions after the initial full version - select this item to create only one backup version chain. Automatic cleanup is not available for this option.
  • Create a full version after every [n] incremental versions - select this item to create several backup version chains. This is a more reliable but more space-consuming backup scheme.

Thanks Steve for the welcome and your quick reply.

I always use "Create incremental backup after initial full version".

Last week I created a backup with cloned settings of one I did in January. I called it "11th February" and it created a backup file called "11th February_full_b1_s1_v1.tib" as I expected. But yesterday I clicked on "Backup Now" and it then proceeded to create another full backup file called "11th February_full_b1_s1_v1-1.tib". I did it again just now and ATI started yet another full backup called "11th February_full_b1_s1_v1-2.tib".

Maybe I should NOT do the Clone Settings and just hit +  Add Backup for 13th Feb? The odd thing is that I have been doing this for over 2 years without a problem. But won't this mean it will ignore my 11th Feb and create a new full backup anyway?

Very confused right now. Thanks for your help.
