ATi 2017 woes - thought I was experienced...
I've used Acronis for years. Have versions 10, 11, 15, and 17. Have used it since 2012 to restore my Win7 PC. Last week, I restored my Western Digital C; drive to a June backup using ATI 2017. It worked fine,Since SSD is inexpensive, I bought a Samsung 500GB SSD and copied the data over. I couldn't get it to boot. I tried both the PC and CD based ATI software. I tried restore and also clone. Figured it was a bad SSD, I got a replacement and it also does not boot. Finally, just to prove the software is good, I did a successful copy of the C: drive to a 7200 rpm Seagate., My PC can only boot MBR. The copied disks come up in diskmgmt as MBR boot sectors. WHat have I forgotten?

It's a Samsung SSD 860 EVO 2.5" SATA III 500GB .
I looked up the specs, but no mention of NVME or that it needs UEFI, but it probably does.
I have it working now in my Win10 laptop. So no need to pursue it. I'll get another Western Digital SSD like my first one for the desktop. Yikes, this cost me over 30 hours. Good thing I work for free.
Thanks for your insight!

Harry, from what I can tell, the SSD should be a standard SATA 3 drive so difficult to say why this had a problem with your Win 7 PC but as per your update in the other topic, guess this is no longer going to be an issue!
