Compatibility with images created by True Image Netbook Edition 2010

Thread needs solution

I have a Windows XP Netbook running True Image Netbook 2010.  I am considering buying a new laptop and upgrading to TI 2017.  Will the archives created using TI Netbook 2010 be accessible from TI 2017 should I need to restore an old file?

No, you'll need to hold onto the rescue media from the previous version in this case to be able to recover those older backups from Acronis 2010.  However, most of the compatibility issues arise when trying to recover from the Windows GUI.  Some have reported that they can use the offline recovery media to restore older versions.  As it's not supported though, I wouldn't count on it and would recommend keeping your old recovery media available, just in case.

There's no reason you shouldn't be able to run an offline backup with the newer Acronis 2017 so that you have a new compatible back with 2017 as well.

Steven, welcome to these user forums.

Strictly speaking, the answer to your question is No - this is described in KB document: 1689: Backup Archive Compatibility Across Different Product Versions which shows that your ATIH 2010 backup archive images are not officially supported to be read by ATIH 2017 which has only the compatibility shown below:

Acronis True Image 2017, Acronis True Image Subscription
on Windows

backups of Windows computers created with:
Acronis True Image 2016, Acronis True Image Cloud (Release 2016)
Acronis True Image 2015

What you can do is to keep copies of the Acronis bootable Rescue Media created by ATIH 2010 and use this to boot from and to access your backup images.

While the above KB document does not show any backward compatibility with your 2010 images, it would be worth testing whether you could open these by double-clicking in Windows Explorer from a system with ATIH 2017 installed.  It may be that they would open without problem but have not been tested by Acronis to be included in the KB document.
