Deleting old full backups, no diff or incremental files involved

Thread needs solution

Recently upgraded to TI 2017, but have the same issue I had with TI2014; when I try to delete a full backup file within the program (not remove the file name), it goes on and on and on, without giving any indication as to progress.    It is  a large full disk file, but is there any way to speed it up. It has been running for 20 minutes so far and I don't know if it will actually complete the task.   What happens if I don't delete it, if I just remove the name from the list, will the space be freed up for a new file  to write over the older file?  Prior attempts to delete were aborted as some point as there didn't appear to be any progress.

Once you have removed a backup task from the listing, you can safely remove the related files using Windows explorer or you file manager of choice.
