Do I REALLY have to install the "Mandatory Update" if I don't use any cloud services? ATI 2017 Perpetual Lic.

Thread needs solution

I have ATI 2017 Perpetual License installed.  I got the e-mail from Acronis stating that I needed to install the free "Mandatory Update" or ATI would stop working if I used thneir cloud services.  I have never used any of their cloud services and do not intend to in the future.

I really am unclear as to whether I REALLY need to install the Mandatory Update.?  What are the consequences if I don't install it and keep chugging along on my current installation of ATI 2017?

Versions 2017-2021 have new builds released containing necessary security updates.

Same notification message is now published at Acronis support page: https://www.acronis.com/en-us/support/.

The new build update impacts both access to the Acronis Cloud and to the Acronis online dashboard webpages which are being strengthened in security terms.

It is impossible to know prior to Acronis actually implementing these changes whether any other features of existing non-updated versions of ATI will see any impact in normal use.

Acronis are only updating ATI 2017 thru' 2021, so all users with 2016 and earlier are being left out in the cold here!  I suspect that you (and they) will not see any real issues if you only make local backups, don't use the Cloud or Dashboard and have activated ATI using a serial number rather than signing in with an Acronis Account.

I would consider installing the update in case it brings in any other fixes for known problems that Acronis hasn't bothered to document in the release notes but would recommend making a new disk backup of your OS drive first to give you a way back if the upgrade causes any problems!  I have seen at least one user saying that the new update broke things for them but more saying it installed just fine, including myself on several different systems!
