Error Code=26 Failed to create snapshot for backup
I just noticed that I am getting this error when doing "Files and folders" backups of folders on a NAS drive since I installed AHTI 2017. (And I assume I would see them extending much further back in time if I had logs from earlier versions.) I get one of those messages for every folder I back up, and the backup proceeds without further error. As near as I can tell, the backups are fine.
Is this error reporting that TI could not take a VSS copy and did a backup of the file folder? If so, what happens if a file was being written while the backup was being taken? Is only the backup of that one file of questionable reliability or is the whole backup unreliable?
I know next to nothing about VSS. Is there any way to get it to work for mapped NAS drives?

The issue is that Shadow Copies cannot be placed on a network drive as they need to be available before Windows loads the network stack. Shadow copies are integral to the NTFS file system; if you have issues with your VSS target at boot-up, you would get an "INACCESIBLE_BOOT_DEVICE" error on bootup of Windows.
So the error you see is more informational than an error. It simply is letting you know that VSS could not be used for the backup task. In such cases the True Image dedfault snapman.api service will take over to perform the backup.
This means that the integrity of the backup nor that of a file write would become unreliable.

There are probably one or two files "open" during each backup - taken daily. And one of those files might be written during the backup period. I suspect that the chances are pretty small that a file is being written while its folder is being backup up.

Patrick, thanks for posting the log file details, I believe that this confirms what Bob (Enchantech) has already stated about VSS and network drives. A support ticket should help Acronis to handle this backup scenario without issuing such error messages.
