"Failed" popup

Thread needs solution

I'm using True Image 2017 on a Win7 x64 German system.

Sometimes (mainly after boot) I get a popup message "Aktion fehlgeschlagen" which means something like "Action failed".

Where can I get more information about what was failing, and do I have to correct / repeat something?

Peter, it is difficult to say what the popup message for 'Action failed' may be referring to without having more information.

What build version of ATIH 2017 do you have, is this build 5554 or do you have the New Generation build 6116?

If you have the standard build 5554, then download a copy of the Log File Viewer from the link in my signature and take a look at the various logs that this can show you to see if they show anything of interest.

Are you running any Acronis activities when the popup is shown?  Or is this simply when booting into Windows 7?

Is ATIH 2017 your first Acronis product you have had installed, or was this an upgrade from an earlier version or versions, i.e. 2016, 2015, 2014 etc?

Does the popup actually say it is being issued by Acronis?

Can you launch the main ATI application and use it to make a backup?

Thanks, Steve, for your attention!

My answers in different order:

I have Build 5554. The "normal" use works w/o issues. I often use it to rebuild / compare source code in my programmer's work.

I have had older versions before. I do not remembwr whether I completelly removed the older versions or whether I made just a new Install / Update.

I do not remember that I were using standard Acronis functions manually, when the poup came.

The popup points (for me) undoubtable to Acronis. Because I do not currently see it, I'm not sure whether it shows the logo, or the product name or just "Acronis"

I'm going to play with the log viewer you mentioned.

Thanks

Peter

Peter, thank you for the further information.

The main suggestion I can offer at this point, is that if you have upgraded from earlier versions, then to do a clean install for the ATIH 2017 build 5554 version - this is recommended in the 2017 FAQ document linked in the left column for users who are coming from 2014 or earlier, but can clear up any strange problems too.

To do  a clean install, uninstall the current Acronis product via the Control Panel, then download the Acronis Cleanup Tool (link in my signature) and run this as Administrator to remove any other residue of the product / settings etc.  You will lose all your backup task settings and history etc, but not any backup files you have created.

Restart the computer to complete the cleanup action, then do the fresh install of ATIH 2017 #5554 and recreate your tasks - if you have a backup drive connected with old backup files, Acronis will add these to the task list but you will need to reconfigure the task settings for these.

Note: You can save a copy of C:\ProgramData\Acronis\TrueImageHome\Scripts folder which holds the task configuration files as .TIS files - you can open these in any text editor and see they are in XML format with the task name near the top.  You can restore these files after doing a clean install to save time in task configuration.  History information will be recreated as your tasks are executed.

I tried the log viewer and found that the error appears at various situations:

In backup as well as in Restore or Validate:

The error messages are not helpful, like the popups.

Sorry, I do not want to destroy my de facto working system by trying complete deinstall and new fresh install. So for the next time I decided to live with the issue, and wait for an event which publishes the result of the issue.

Peter

Peter, I can only suggest for you to raise a Support Case directly with Acronis Support for this issue if it continues to occur.  They are likely to make the same recommendation about doing a clean install unless they can identify this as a known problem.

Peter, there will be an update for Acronis True Image 2017 within the next several weeks. If the message about a failed operation persists, you can follow Steve's recommendation and contact Support.

Regards,

Slava
