Hard Disk Recovery
I had a hard disk crash so I purchased a new one. Therefore it should be a simple procedure to recover the image to a new hard disk in the same computer with the same hardware. I have watched the recovery video on the website.
My hard disk was partitioned into C: (for the operating system) and D: (for Data). There is also the MBR and 60 MB unlabeled partition.
In the recovery video (TRUE IMAGE 2016) the new hard disk is just selected as the destination. In my case using TRUE IMAGE 2017, it shows each of the above "partitions" and wants me to select their destination. If I select the entire hard drive for any one of them, there isn't an option for the other partitions.
What am I missing or doing incorrect? I thought this would be very straightforward but it hasn't been.

First, boot from the ATI bootable Rescue Media to preform a disk restore. You should not do this from within the True Image Windows application. You would select to perform a disk recovery, and then select the checkbox for the entire disk. Of course, that presupposes that you selected to backup the entire disk, rather than individual partitions.

Thank you so much for your response. I believe I was using the recover/rescue media. It starts with a menu that has 1) Acronis Universal Restore 2) Acronis True Image 3) Acronis System Report C) continue booting.
I chose option 2 as per the video stated.
I selected the DISK1 option which has several .tib files under it... these are incrementals. Screenshot attached.
Then I get this screen which is the one that is throwing me. See how the partitions are over on the left side. If on this first partition, I select the new hard drive, there are no options for the other partitions.
Should I just manually create these partitions and then select them?
Again, I certainly appreciate your assistance.

MEG, please see the attached document created by another user in these forums recently which should address your questions about this recovery action.

You shouldn't need to go into each of the Partition sections on the left. Those are options, to be used only if needed which you shouldn't in this case. After you select the .tib backup image to bethat p used for this restore, and select to recover an entire disk, you'll check the box for the whole disk. That should automatically include all partitions, so select only the disk and don't select individual partition boxes. At that point you should be able to click a "Next" box near the bottom, to advance to the next screen.

Steve:
Thanks for the response and thanks for the guide.
When I choose DISK 1, the destination is shown for all the partitions.... not just the DISK (as I thought it would/should display).
See the attached screen and the list of partitions the left side...unlike in the document.

Meg, from the document, ensure that you have followed the steps below:
5. Select Recover whole disks and partitions at the Recovery method screen. Then click Next.
6. On the What to recover screen select only the disk box. Do not select any of the partition boxes!
The application will then show all boxes checked.
Selecting partition boxes will lead into “Settings of partitions” which is not
required if no change in partition structure is desired. Then click Next.

Concur with Steve here on this. Once the Disk is selected in this manner and Next is selected the next screen presented should be the destination screen where you can select the new disk.

Steve:
Here is a screenshot before selecting DISK 1 and a screenshot immediately following the selection.
Note how all the partitions are on the left side...unlike the documentation notes.

Your screenshots are what one would expect to see when selecting the full disk for recovery. From that screen you can proceed to the destination selection screen.

Thanks to all that tried to help.
I manually built partitions on the drive and then restored the respective "imaged" partitions to the new drive partitions.
Then I set the MBR to point to the correct partition.
No sure why I didn't get the options that everyone thought I would get but I finally got the hard drive restored and running.
Again, much thanks to those that responded.

Meg, glad to hear that you have got the restore done and the system up and running again.

Meg, just as a follow up on this particular topic, I tested an entire disk recovery on one of my test systems earlier today and documented the process (made possible by using the Windows PE Rescue Media created using the MVP Tools script, which allowed screen captures of the steps).
See the attached PDF document.
Note: The key element during the restore process was to see "Destination of Disk 1" in the left column list of actions to be performed. If you see "Destination of Partition X' repeated in that column, then you are no longer doing an Entire Disk Recovery.

Steve,
That was a fantastic step by step recovery doument.
Great Visuals !
We downloaded it, printed it and placed it in the desk, ready to pull out for our next disaster.
Thanks for sharing !!

Steve, you are very welcome - this is an area that the ATIH User Guides doesn't seem to cover very clearly so was worth doing this, but made a whole lot easier being able to run IrfanView for screen capture from the WinPE Rescue Media.

Hi Steve
Having gone through this process a few times this week it makes it clear what needs to be done. I notice that you did not tick "Recover Disk Signature". Not sure if it is important, but I have been selecting it.

It's important to select it if restoring to a new, replacement disk that you want to be recognized by Windows and applications as the previous disk.

Yes, that must be why I always do so.

Ian, the disk signature is important for maintaining activation for various applications that check this, though for the document, I was just doing a dry run test of the process with the target drive in an external dock. I did add a note for the screen shot in the document about the disk signature but probably should have included this in the main text too.

Steve, you have some great how-to PDF's. Can we put them in a repository on the User MVP Google Drive? I'll send you a direct link with edit access to a new User guide repository.

Thanks for the link Rob, added several documents.
