"The last backup has been stopped by user."

Thread needs solution

I have setup my Acronis True Image 2017, to nighly backup 3 different backups. 3 folders on a network drive (each an individual backup), to 3 different folders on a HDD. (Basically A, B, C on network drive, backed up to folders called A, B & C on HDD.)

All has been working well for a week or so. Looking in the destination HDD I see backup files for several nights. The problem is While backup A has the appropriate amount of successful backups, through last night, B and C have not backed up successfully for the last 4 and 5 nights, respectively. (However, A was successful the whole time.)

When I click the "Back up now" button on B and C, they sit for a while, calculating and then quit with an error message saying "The last backup has been stopped by user." I most certainly did not stop it. The same happens when I try to let it run the automated backup. It comes back with the same error.

I don't know what is happening and I cannot keep using a product that has problems with basic backup functionality.

I've tried to find an error log somewhere in the program but I don't see it.

Troy, welcome to these User Forums.

Please download the MVP Log Viewer tool to use to review the logs for your backup tasks and check for any more informative messages that may be given for why your other backup tasks are not running correctly.

Thanks for your quick reply! :)

Unfortunately, the logs don't say much more than the error message. It says task Terminated by user, which is not true. I literally just let it sit there. Although it does fail to create a snapshot long before the error message about being terminated occurs. (Nearly immediately.) (Error 0x17001a: Failed to create snapshot for backup.) That snapshot error occurs immediately and then Acronis sits there working for 6.5 minutes (give or take. It's never the same but usually similar.) and then throws up the error that it was Terminated by user.

The destination disk has more than 2 TB of space available.

I noticed upon further inspection that the one that was consistently successful every night was setup differently than the other two backups.

The two that kept failing were setup as NAS/Network drive backups. Even though the third that was always successful was sourced from the same drive, it was setup as "Files and Folders" backup. I deleted the failing two backups and setup new backups using the "Files and Folders" settings instead of a network drive.

It seems to be working. It still had the "failed to create snapshot" error in the logs, but it is writing to a backup file immediately, which it did not do before:

I think there is an issue with the NAS backup feature in the Acronis True Image program.  Not only was it tempermental to setup in the first place (requiring booze and chocolates to play nicely with login credentials), but I noticed that the path seems wrong:

Create Backup Archive From: nas://NETWORKDRIVE.HOME/Troy/

nas://NETWORKDRIVE.HOME/Troy/ is not a valid network path on my computer, but Acronis seems to force the setup to use this path. Maybe I misunderstand what it's doing, but that seemed questionable ot me.

Troy, when you are backing up from Network drives as the source data, then there will always be an error posted for snapshot as this is not supported for non-Windows drives, so can also be ignored in this context.

You can change the backup settings to not use VSS / snapshot for these backup tasks as described in KB 59440: Acronis True Image 2017: 'Snapshot for backup' option overview
