MVP Tool vs MustangPEBuilder

Thread needs solution

I am having difficulty understanding the difference between the MVP Tool and MustangPEBuilder.

If I am creating a ATI WinPE disk for another PC with a spare laptop I have, which tool is more appropriate.  I don't want to inject drivers for the laptop, since that wouldn't be helpful, on the PC I am attempting to backup.

The PC I am attempting to backup encountered a unreachable boot device, so I can't use Acronis within Windows, otherwise I would do that.

Ramhound, there isn't a great deal of difference between the MVP tool and the Mustang PE Builder tool - both will create valid bootable Win PE Rescue Media but use different methods to do so.

Mustang (Paul) has been very much involved in the creation of both of these utilities, bringing his expertise from creating the Mustang PE Builder tool to bear in helping Bobbo (Rob) to create the MVP Tool.

Having used both of these tools, I would suggest that the MVP tool is probably the one that you should be trying for your spare laptop, as the process is very much guided via a series of easy questions to determine exactly what should be included on the USB media, and as such is probably less complicated to use, assuming that you have already installed the Windows ADK that is a prerequisite for any WinPE tool creation.

I apprecaite the assistance.  The last time I build a ATI media I used was a couple years ago and I use the Mustang PE builder at the time.

Both are good.  Mustang and I wanted to build something with a simple interface and minimal user interaction (other than picking options as they're presented to you) so that's where the MVP winpe builder came about.

Mustang PE also uses a lot of autoit executables and unfortunately, despite being clean programs, may flag as malware because they are not signed for many security programs.  So far, no reports of malware reports with the MVP too as it's primarily just a batch script with an EXE wrapper around it.

Personally, I think that the MVP tool will be easier for the majority of users to run.  However, try it out for yourself and if you find any shortcomings, feel free to report back and/or use whichever tool you're the most comfortable with.
