Question about limitations and uses
I am considering buying Acronis 2017. I noticed it is only good for 1 computer?
I don't understand how that works. I have a laptop that's hard drive is locked.
I have .tib files that I'd like to recover to my laptop. I also believe my hard drive may be corrupted or simply broken. I'm considering buying the exact same hard drive but i'm afraid if i do and install it to my laptop and run acronis 2017 on my new drive that it wouldn't break my new drive.
So my question is what exactly does it mean to cover 1 laptop. When is the registration or use of it used? I'd just like to know more information to make sure buying a one time copy of acronis 2017 is worth it. Please advise.

If you buy a single license, yes it is good for one computer. However, that just means you can only install one copy of the software at a time. Just like if you purhase a copy of Windows, you can only install it on one computer at a time. However, there is nothing that prevents you from moving the license to another system, as long as you deactivate the old one first. Or, if your computer becomes unusable, or you move the OS to another drive, if Acronis detects that you are installing on "another" system when you go to activate it again, the application will ask you to log into the account, take you to a screen to pick a system to deactivate first (just pick the existing listed system if it is the same one) and once the license is deactivated, you can continue activating it again.
There is no limitation of using the offline recovery media to restore from existing backup .tib files (although per the terms of the license agreement, you should have a license for any system you use the recovery media with as well). The offline media does not prevent you from using it like the Windows application does though.
You can always move the license or deactivate an existing license and move it to another system. If you ever have any issues with licensing or registration, just contact technical support via chat and they can help you out too.

Well if you're interested in seeing what's wrong with my hard drive at the moment I have an active forum going on here:
http://www.techsupportforum.com/forums/f16/micron-solid-state-drive-116…
So you can see where I'm at attempting to revive a corrupted drive that will not boot.
Thank you for your replys and thanks for clearing up the licensing issue you explained it very well.
My real question is if i buy a new solid state same model as the one i have now i'd like to attempt to use my .tib files from an ancient acronis to the 2017 aconis. It's bootable iso file correct? or is it also a program you install when on?

Older Acronis backups may not work with newer versions - when it comes to bootable recovery media, I've had good luck. However, officially, check out this KB article for supported compatibility across versions.
As long as you have a working .tib file you should be able to recover using at least the older offline recovery media. It gets a little more complicated
How'd you get to this point in time anyway? It could be a bad/failing hard drive, but perhaps not. You can try checking the disk with the free version of hard disk sentinel to look for physical issues. Otherwise, this forum may help. I'm not a fan of Easy RE, but the items below their product recommendation are worth trying (#4 / #5). If worse comes to worse, option #5 with an in place upgrade might get it back on track.

1689: Backup Archive Compatibility Across Different Product Versions
If the backups were taken with older media, then you should be able to use the same "older" recovery media to restore those images to a newer drive just fine (assuming the rest of the sytem is the same and you're just upgrading the hard drive and both hard drives are using a SATA connection)
Acronis Product | Can restore, mount and explore (deploy) backups created with: |

* (!) Backups can only be restored. Other operations can be limited. It is necessary to create a new backup plan / archive.
(!) Acronis does not guarantee forward compatibility. Backups created with a newer build/version of the product may not be supported by older builds/versions. For example, restoring a backup created with Acronis True Image Build 8163 may fail with Acronis True Image Build 8076, or restoring a backup created with Acronis True Image Home 2011 may fail with Acronis True Image Home 2010.
(!) Acronis guarantees backup compatibility for different Acronis backup products within the same version. E.g. Acronis Backup Advanced 11.5 for Linux Server will work with backups created by Acronis Backup Advanced 11.5 for PC.
(!) Acronis Snap Deploy works only with images of the whole hard disk.
(!) Backups created with Acronis Recovery for MS SQL Server are not compatible with Acronis Backup Advanced 11.5 for SQL (Acronis Backup & Recovery 11.5 for MS SQL Server).

Joshua,
I had a look at your post to the TechSupportForum. What occured prior to your drive not booting?
Windows 10 has a new feature known as Fast Start which is enabled by default. This feature has been linked to the "locked drive" condition.
This is going to sound silly and may well not work for you as it is a bit of a long shot but, if you can boot into Safe Mode option 4 from a recovery instance by running a Windows 10 install disk then it may be possible to fix the condition by simply clicking on the start button while booted in Safe Mode and selecting restart from the power options menu. Like I say it sounds silly but I was able to fix a locked disk issue by doing this myself so I know it works at least in some cases.

Enchanted: prior to my hard drive failing I was using a very old copy of acronis. I made two backup files and so I have an external hard drive with two .tib files on it. I made a software error and decided to revert back to an earlier time using acronis. First acronis 64 just fails as soon as I open it and so I chose regular attempted to restore my drive and instead of working it started and then crashes. It won't work at all now so that's why I was considering buy the new acronis but it doesn't seem to be forwards compatible. Anyway that's about it feel free to ask more.
alao I can't boot to my hard drive st also there's not even a chance to get into safe mode my computer says I have no boot media and to restart. So that can't fly :(

Joshua, you have not told us which version of ATIH you have that created the backup images on your external drive with, and which version of Windows OS the system was running?
If you are running Windows 10, then you can easily create new installation media using the Microsoft Media Creation Tool which will allow you to create install media for a different system on either DVD or USB stick.
See webpage: https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/software-download/windows10 for the media creation tool.
Once you have the Windows 10 install media, then you can use this to try a Startup Repair etc.

As Steve points out above use the link he provided to make a Windows 10 install media. You can run recovery functions from that media. You can visit the link below for instruction on creating installation media and a link to download the Windows 10 Media Creation Tool as well. I recommend that you create this media on a USB flash drive.
http://www.addictivetips.com/windows-tips/how-to-create-windows-10-inst…
Once you have created the install media you will need to boot your machine to that media by booting the machine into the BIOS, locate the Boot section in the bios and look for Boot Priority. Move the USB media you have created to first in the list. If you see 2 entries for the media select the one that has UEFI in the name.
Save and exit the bios and the machine should boot to the install media. Once booted accept the licensing terms and on the next Install screen look to the lower left corner of the screen and you should see Repair your computer. Click on that to bring up the Repair console.
Once you have that displayed select Troubleshooting then, Advanced options. In Advanced options look for Startup settings and select that. From the resulting menu select option 4 Safe Mode then click on restart.
If your lucky Windows should boot to a logon screen where you would enter you username and password credentials and press Enter. This should then load the Windows desktop view.
If your drive is locked and as the error message says you must restart your PC then just do that by clicking on the Windows start button, select the Power Button then select Restart.
That's it. This restart should resolve the locked drive condition and the machine should now boot back into Windows.
