Restore Backupconfigurations after new OS and new Acronis Installation
My PC has two disks. One (C:) with the OS and the Acronissoftware and D:, where the Acronis backupfiles are located.
I have four different Backupconfiguration, with which I backup different Files and Folders in separated Backups.
Now I have to reinstall the OS (Windows 10). I have no Backupimage, so I have to install Windows anew and then Acronis anew.
But the old Backupfiles (incremental Backups) are still on Dsik D:.
Now I would like to have a possibility to import the four old Backupconfigurationfiles in a way so, that Acronis show me the four Backupconfigs and can adress all old Backupupfiles on D: like before.
I think, I have to store some files from Acronis before new installation of the OS. But which files I have to store, so that I can recover the old Acronis situation after new installing.
Thanks
Gerald

Hi Steve,
thank you for your comment. I am sorry for my incomplete explanation.
1) I have only backuped my working data! I have three different projects, which data I backuped with four different acronis backup configurations (see attached screen shot). Backup method was incremental. Of course so I have full with following incremental backups.
What I forgot to say: The workíng data are stored on an external hard disk. And the data of this external Harddisk I backup on disk D: of my PC. And to avoid complete loss caused by ransomeware one backup is on another external disk E. But this ist not relevant for my question.
2) My PC is 6 weeks old and so I did not make a system backup-image after finalizing my installation. Unfortunatelly!
Now one microsoft update of my windows 10 pro had a problem during installation and now all further updates fails. I wasted some time to find help in the internet and to repair this problem, but it seems, there is no working solution. So I decided to install the system anew.
3) Now my question: When I reinstall the OS I have to reinstall Acronis too. Then the Backup configuration list of Acronis is empty!
One way would be to delete all old Acronis backupfiles on D:, make new Backup configurations and backup anew. This is possible, because my working data are still available on my external disk. But I would like to have the old file versions of my project work, so I would like to have the old backups too.
Because of this I would like to recover the Acronis Backupconfigurations in a way, that I have the same old backuplist (like on my attacheds screenshot) and full access to my old acronis backup on D:
Or in other way from an Acronis point of view: Acronis should work like there was no reinstall of the OS and of Acronis.
I did not found any possiblity to reimport old backup configurations in a new Acronis installation. In my understanding I have to save the Acronis backup-configuration datafiles from the state now and after reinstall Acronis I have to copy back this data. But I did not find first the location of this data and I am not sure if this works?
I hope I could explain my problem in a better way.
Many thanks
Gerald

Gerald, thank you for the further information which makes it a lot easier to understand your questions.
If you have not already reinstalled Windows 10, then for your Acronis tasks, save a copy of the C:\ProgramData\Acronis\TrueImageHome\Scripts and Database folders which hold your task configuration and backup history information. You would then be able to restore these folders back again after doing the reinstall of the software (before you run for the first time). Note: To restore the Database folder, no Acronis Services or Programs can be active else the files will be locked.
On that point, if you are able to boot into Windows 10, albeit it is not working fully correctly, then consider using the option to Reset your PC from the Windows Settings panel - see attached screen shot - this will use the Recovery partition to put Windows 10 back to the state before the failed update.
If you do go for a clean install, then this also can be done from the same panel as shown in the screen shot but this will lose everything again.
One point to be careful of, if your drive D: is a partition on the same disk as your Windows OS C: drive, then this could be wiped out by reinstalling Windows if a wrong option is taken - this is more likely when doing a factory restore where the computer was originally supplied with Windows using the whole disk before you resized the disk to create the second partition. There should be no problem if using the Settings > Reset option.
If your drive D: is an external drive, then disconnect this when doing the reinstall or reset of Windows, so that your Acronis backups are isolated and protected from any changes to the OS drive.

Hi Steve,
thanks a lot! This is exactly what I need. I will save this data before I start installing the system anew.
Concerning the installation:
Disk D: is an additional disk, not a partition. But it is a good idea to disconnect it during new installation.
Thanks for the hint with "Reset this PC": I never have done this under windows 10, so I am not really sure, what of my data the system will keep and what not. But now I will try it.
Thanks again, have a nice weekend!

Gerald, doing the Reset this PC should be the same as doing an in-place upgrade of Windows 10 and you shouldn't lose anything other than any Windows updates.
See webpage: Windows 10: Repair Install Windows 10 with an In-place Upgrade

Hi Steve,
thanks for the link! I did the in-place upgrade. It worked!
Curiously the problems with the microsoft updates continue, but in another way. It seems, that the update KB4015438 had a problem (there was a message during installation, that update has failed), but after reboot it looks like it was installed. But further updates are not available - this confuse me, because I have only three installad updates. Before in-place upgrade more updates has been available (I cannot remember to the numbers of the Updates).
On the other hand I got the message after system was searching for updates, that Windows 10 Creators Update is on the way and I can have it earlier. So I will wait now to this update, if it fails, then I have to reinstall the OS.
Thanks for your help!

Gerald, for the Windows Updates issue, run the Control Panel > Troubleshooters for this area and it should clean out any issues preventing updates from installing - have had to do this a few times with my own Windows 10 systems and seems to have sorted it each time.
The Creators Update is due for roll out starting from April 17th but will be staggered so not sure exactly when we will see it here in Europe.

Hi Steve,
thanks!
I did the troubleshooting before in-place upgrade with no success: "The problems found could not be repaired."
And now after the in-place - After running severall times I got always different messages:
- "No problems found"
- "The problem could not be identified"
- "The service registry is missing or damaged: It was fixed."
Maybe all is fine - but I am pessimistic. You are right, it is not yet clear, when the Creators update is coming. Anyway - in the next two weeks are probably coming new updates. If there no further update problems, then I can switch my mind to optimistic :)
