Restoring files to a disk defragmented after the backup

Thread needs solution

If I perform an entire PC backup and then subsequently defragment one or all of the drives involved, will this cause issues should I subsequently restore selected files?  I'm new to the product so I don't know if the restore requires the files/fragments absolutely remain in their original location(s).

Pinman, welcome to these user forums.

The answer to your question is no - when you restore individual files or folders, then Acronis will restore these as files and folders and place them where you tell it to do so, i.e. in the original location or to a new different location.

If you restore the entire PC backup of your disks & partitions, then any defragmentation done would be ignored because the act of restoring disks & partitions requires that the target drives/partitions for these are wiped in preparation for the restore, and any fragmentation that existed when the backup was created would be restored back again.  For this type of restore, it is done at a sector level rather than as files & folders.
