Security Question

Thread needs solution

Hello,

So, I am doing a trial of Acronis True Image 2017.  I want to clone my desktops onto the cloud and be able to access backup files there as needed.  (as well are the bare metal restore in a true emergency).

I am confused as to the actual security of the encryption.  With many other backup providers there are 2 passwords.. one you use to access their systems and the backup software, and then a second "Private Encryption Key" that only I know.

So, since I do not want ANYONE but me to ever have access to my backups, I want to use a private encryption key.  I do not see a clear option for this anywhere.  As a matter of fact, when I came to post this forum topic, I found that my login/pw to the forum is the same as my actual backup software.

So, when I have the Acronis True Image 2017 software open, and I go to backup to the cloud.. it asks me if I want to "encrypt backup".  Is this the "private encryption key"?

Something else.. It seems that no matter how much data I have on my local hard drives, when I go to backup the "entire pc" it says "1TB of data selected".   Where is it getting that 1TB number from?  My main drive (c:) is 500gb and then I have a d: drive that is 1tb.   But there is less than 1tb used between them both.

If I want to clone the system so I can restore it on new hardware, then I must select "entire pc"?  Even if windows is only on drive c:?

Thank you in advance!

Yes, there is an option to encrypt the backup using a user defined key. The key can be merely to open or can be assoicated with encryption. You cannot have separate key for opening followed by second key for encrytpion. To access the clould you have to log in using your user name and user passoword.
