TIH asks for Credentials - no credentials required

Thread needs solution

Acronic TIH 2017 (5554) asks for credentials for the destination folder. No credentials are needed - the backup location (device & folder) is unsecure and does not ask for username or password. I have a Windows 10 desktop backing up to a Netgear ReadyNAS NV

Have you tried just pressing enter on the credentials prompt when asked?

If you have a NAS being used to store your system backups which is not protected by any credentials, then you should be aware that this is an invitation for any malware, ransomware, virus / trojan infection to have a field day with the data stored on your NAS.

For myself, my NAS has no open Windows Shares mapped, and has separate users according to what is being stored on the NAS where those users do not map directly to any of my Windows user accounts, so that should I be hit by malware, there is no means by which it can spread to the NAS and prevent me from recovering my system from my backup images stored there.

See KB document: 58004: Acronis True Image 2016: Troubleshooting Issues Related to NAS Credentials which applies equally to 2017.

There's a bug with network credentials when a mapped drive is in use.  If you have mapped drives (even different ones), please apply the hotfix items:

Resolution

  1. Replace TrueImage.exe and ti_managers.dll with fixed versions
