update to Acronis true image 2017 error

Thread needs solution

after installing Acronis True Image from 2013 to 2017 I get the message "There is a connection problem or an error on the server. Check your internet connection or try later". I only want to synchronise between my PC and a local harddisk. Please help.

Upgrade procedure

An upgrade license can only be used with a full license of a previous version as a base.

If your current version of Acronis True Image is Acronis True Image 2015 or Acronis True Image 2016, the new version will simply update it; there is no need to remove the old version and reinstall the software. If your current version is older, we recommend that you remove the current version, first.

Sync also does not work locally - only backups.  Sync is designed in Acronis to sync between PC 1 and the Cloud or PC 1 and PC 2

Storage types

A synchronization process may be established between:

  • Two or more folders on two or more computers.
  • One or more computers and Acronis Cloud.

Acronis Cloud always contains the last versions of the synced files. At the same time you cannot select a folder on Acronis Cloud to participate in a sync, such folder is created automatically.

Within one sync process you may assign only one sync folder on every computer.

You cannot select for synchronization a single file. To synchronize the file, select for synchronization the folder that contains that file.

Data types

You can synchronize the following data:

  • Files (your photos, music, videos, documents, etc.), except those listed below

Only the native FAT32 and NTFS file attributes are synchronized. If the synced folders belong to different file systems, the program synchronizes only the attributes supported by the both file systems.

  • Other folders inside the sync folder (that is, sync subfolders) and their content

You cannot synchronize the following data:

  • Disks and partitions
  • System files and folders
  • Hidden files and folders
  • Temporary files and folders
  • System registry
  • Databases
  • Data of e-mail programs (including Microsoft Outlook and others)
  • Other data that cannot be represented as separate files or folders (for example, contacts from your address book)
  • Windows libraries (Documents, Music, etc.)

For Syncing locally, you can use Windows embedded robocopy or would need another sync tool like goodsync or allwaysync.  they have free versions that limit the amount of data you can sync locally though.

I personally use robocopy in a .bat file. Just make sure you have source and destination identified correctly.  When you use the /MIR command and press enter or launch it in a .bat script, it does what it's supposed to do.  If you have them reversed... that's no bueno

EXAMPLE:

robocopy "Sourcedrive1\backupfolder" "Destinationdrive2\backupfolder" /MIR /R:0 /W:0

Nico, welcome to these user forums.

Please see the ATIH 2017 FAQ document in the Useful Links section of the forum on the left and read the Installation section which states:

If you already have Acronis True Image 2016 or Acronis True Image 2015 installed, there is no need to remove the old version and reinstall the software. Start the installation file of Acronis True Image 2017 and install the product. After upgrade, create a new bootable media.

If you already have Acronis True Image 2014 or older versions, you need to delete these first and then install Acronis True Image 2017.

I would recommend doing a clean install of your ATIH 2017 as follows:

First uninstall what you have installed at present using the normal Control Panel options.

Next, download the Acronis Cleanup Tool (link below) and run this as Administrator followed by a restart.

Finally, reinstall ATIH 2017

All,

Thank you very much for your reaction. I deleted the older version and it is working now

Nico
