Upgraded from TI2016 - Unable to create a Sync between local Synology NAS and PC's

Thread needs solution

Hello all:

I just upgraded from True Image 2016 to 2017 and now I am unable to create a sync between folders on my local Synology NAS and other PC's; all on the same subnet.

I am positive this was an easy process in True Image 2016; since the 'Create Sync' process found my Synology NAS as a local resourse and I selected the folders I wanted to sync with.

Now, in True Image 2017 the 'Create Sync' process does not indicated the existance of my Synology at all.

I have tried using the file formats: \\NAS-Server\Folder , and FTP:\\NAS-Server\Folder; however these do not work.

Any help would be appreciated.

This issue has been reported. You will find the Synology NAS under "Network".

Ian

I don't see the Network folder AND (therefore) I do NOT see the Synology NAS resource. I have checked for the existance of a Network folder under all top-level folders shown in the enclosed image, and can not find it. Windows File Explorer has no problem finding the NAS entitled DS413Video.

Please see the enclosed images.

I am using Windows 10 Pro - Version 1607.

Thanks,

Daurora

Daurora, please see the attached screen shot from my Windows 10 system where I am backing up to my Synology DS215 NAS via the Network list.

You should see an option for Network as a separate entry below 'This PC' which you can then expand to see if it shows your NAS.  If you don't see it there, then start typing in the network address for the NAS in the entry field at the top where it says 'Back up to:'  You can use the form \\NAS_name\folder\  or \\NAS_IP_address\folder\ - press the Enter key and you will be pompted to enter any required Credentials for the NAS.   Once authenticated you should then see the folder listing from the NAS.

Note: If you don't see any NAS folders, try adding a Hosts file entry to your C:\Windows\System32\drivers\etc\hosts file in the format shown in the text of the file.  Example: 192.168.0.29 myNASname

You will need to run Notepad or a similar text editor in Administrator mode to save the hosts file changes.

Steve:

Thank you for the suggestions for this issue I am having.

I actually did try the entries \\NAS_Name\folder\ and \\NAS_IP\folder\ before; and although I do get challenged for my NAS username and password; and after supplying the correct username\password the "OK" button changes to an active state (no longer greyed out). After pressing the active "OK" button, nothing happens; in other words, I still do not see  the Network folder; nor the NAS resource.

Further to this, I added the Host entry, as you suggested, for the NAS IP, Local DNS uplook ; then rebooted the computer and  have the same issue.

I never had this issue with True Image 2016, and am at a loss to determine the cause of this issue.

So the key word here is SYNC.

In True Image 2016 I was able to select my NAS server as a network resource and SYNC other PC's containing the same Folder contents to it.

In True Image 2017, Acrconis has taken this ability away, and only allow PC to PC SYNC.

If this is not true, then someone from Acronis correct me and tell me how this is done. Otherwise, I really can not use you product to the full extent anymore.

I have not tested, but will try later this week.  A few MVP's have been testing for another user and found that selecting the NAS as a source does some to be broken when using the NAS as the source in a backup.  This may be casuign the behavior you're seeing with sync right now. I'd like to test more to help validate that assumption though as I've never actually used sync before.  Unfortunately, I'll be away for a couple of days so won't be able to test until I return.

I'm having the same issue trying to create a nightly backup with my Synology NAS.  The NAS does show under the network folder.  I am asked to enter credentials, which are accepted, but the folder structure is not visible.

I also needed to restore a file today and the same thing occurs, so I can't access the backups already stored on the NAS.

Other network devices, such as other PC's show up in the network list and folder structure is accessible.

My solution to this problem is to re-install True Image 2016 on the PC connected to the Synology NAS; via the same network switch.

Since at the time of ordering, I was given a free license (3 Paid + 1 Free); I will use that free license as a True Image 2016. By the way, True Image 2016 has no problem what so ever to SYNC to the Synology NAS; so unless there is a bug with in True Image 2017 not allowing the SYNC function to find other network resources, I have to conclude that Acronis has removed the ability to SYNC to other network resources that are not considered PC's.

Having upgraded my other 3 licenses to True Image 2017, I will use those to SYNC with the PC closes to the NAS, which is running True Image 2016.

This solves my problem, but one has to wonder how many countless users will be in this same perdicament.
