James, welcome to these user forums.

Can you confirm that you are using ATIH 2017 with the latest build 8053 (Standard version) or 6206 (New Generation)?

If you are, then see KB 59440: Acronis True Image 2017: 'Snapshot for backup' option overview which provides information on how to use a different snapshot method for your problem backup.

The error message would suggest a problem with the Microsoft Volume Shadow Copy Service (VSS) or a lack of sufficient free space for creating snapshot data.

Is there a reason why you are setting the backup to do sector-by-sector and to backup unallocated space?  This should not normally be needed to be set for a normal backup and will cause the backup size to be significant larger, up to the size of the source drive.

01) I would NOT use sector by sector either.  You are backing up 18GB of data (as seen used on the disk), but how big is the actual original disk.  If it's bigger than 37.2GB, it will never fit on the 37.2GB drive.

02) Or, there could be bad/dirty sectors on part of the disk (even the unused part).  If you know it will fit on 37.2GB, then run CHKDSK /F /R on the source first and when it's done, go into your backup task and re-pick the source and destination again (even if they remain the same, for good measure).

03) If you're attaching other drives that could be putting you over your 37.2GB availability.  "Entire PC" may try to backup more than just the main OS drive.  To be certain, use a "Disks and paritions" backup scheme instead and select the root of just the disk you really want to backup so that it only ever tries to back it up and nothing else.

Really though 37.2GB for a backup destination that is backing up an entire OS drive is really pretty small - probably too small to be reliable/useful.
