Acronis True Image 2018 still is a piece of crap when backing up mobile devices to NAS.
So I bought True Image 2017 thinking I could backup mobile to NAS... Wrong!!! Would not even let me point the data to a UNC path.
But Acronis 2018 would let me do it it seems!
Wrong!
a) If I try and move the mobile backup destination I get an error (see attached). If I try and change it under settings it does not work either, won't even let me connect. I've even tried mapping to a network drive, it won't even authenticate FFS.
b) My Synology DS410 is NOT supported :(
Apologies for the rude language but heck it's been over a year and the bugs should have been ironed out by now. I upgraded like a good little boy and Acronis continues to supply half baked products.

Thanks Steve
I had already linked to the page pointed to which states my NAS isn't supported, and already stated it isn't supported. so I'm not sure why you are linking to it again, pasting what is written there and telling me it isn't supported??? I obviously read it it feels like you are just twisting the dagger LOL :) Regardless I do understand you are just trying to help.
Do you get the error message? This happens when trying to relocate destination by clicking "Browse files". Yes I've already tried the reset destination etc. I think it's probably doing this because I tried to get it to point to a UNC or network drive, and yes I've already tried resetting the path in settings. This is what annoys me most of all it's clearly not been tested very well.
Thanks I do appreciate your comments I shall contact Acronis. (EDIT - Have just done so).

Alex, apologies for not recognising your earlier reference to the KB document listing supported models of NAS - either a senior moment or down to my being colour blind!
If you are not able to change the Mobile Backup location to a different local location, then check that your have both Mobile Backup Services active in the Services.msc control panel, as this is a known reason for such issues.

Well according to Tech support this error message is by design!
Genius!!
And no knowledge base article to point to it, I guess that's by design as well!!

Alex, I suspect that the tech is correct - software is written by mere mortals and while the programmers try to anticipate every eventuality, there are bound to be some they hadn't considered - hence 'an unknown error has occurred'!
Regarding the KB issue of no match to the error code - Acronis keep statistics on the codes searched for and will try to create new documents for the ones with the highest number of hits (or misses - depending on your point of view!).

In reply to Alex, I suspect that the… by truwrikodrorow…

Ah yes make a lot of sense.
The error which the tech apparently knows about, is shown as an unknown error on the application... by design!
And that error happens every time I click the button and do nothing else. I guess next time I'm landing on a plane and the breaks don't work - don't worry folks all is normal!
God knows what happens when there's an error they don't know about - does it turn into Norton Ghost or something? (Again by design).
Thanks :) :) :)

Hello AlexS,
Some NAS models are not supported because of the platform limitations. We will check if there is a possibility to support DS410.
As for the error message that you get, could you describe the steps that you have performed to get it? It surely should not be "an unknown error". If it would be possible to reproduce it on our side, we would have the possibility to write some readable error message for this scenario.

Synology NAS are problematic as unlike QNAP there is no a unitary OS; each hardware platform has a different OS variant which can have different features. I suspect the DS410 may have the same SoC as the DS414 which I have.
