All pre-2023 backups won't open

Thread needs solution

Over the last 2-3 years, I've checked my backups and they open. Sometimes I've had cause to restore files from a backup (2021, 2022). I have the settings set to do the backups, and I have not changed anything in that respect. It just gets on with it.

Today, when I had need to restore a file from around 2-3 weeks ago (Dec, 2022) I find that I get the "An error occurred while opening the archive...".

When I check all the backups, from different drives and different folders, some tiny, some large, I find that ONLY THE ONES FROM 2023 OPEN.

Nothing from before 01.01.2023 will open.

I've not updated Acronis. It's Acronis 2018.

My backups opened before. The drives I backup up to are external USB drives, plugged directly into the back of the PC. I don't ever unplug them. They work just fine.

I don't think this is a 'corrupt' file thing - I think it's a software bug. Files that open fine in 2022, but not in 2023? *All* of them? *All* 2022 files not opening? *All* 2023 files opening just fine?

Not a coincidence I think.

Does anyone have any fixes for this? If I cannot trust Acronis, then I have to find something else. This is a major PITA.

Welcome to these public User Forums.

This is the first forum post that I have seen with any report of this type of issue and there have been no recent changes for ATI 2018 since the release of build #15560 back in December 2021.

I have just checked with one of my PC's with ATI 2018 and have no issues opening a backup from 2021.

Hello!

Could you please share the entire error code? Because that message is generic can be deployed for several issues.

Thanks in advance!
