Backup settings produce unexpected results

Thread needs solution

What I want to happen: Create full backup #1, then 5 incremental backups, then create full backup #2, then delete entire backup chain #1, then continue with 5 backup #2 incremental versions, etc. etc.

My settings: Create a full version after every 5 incremental versions, Store no more than 1 recent version chains.

My results: After full_b1_s1_v1, backups continued with inc_b1_s2_v1, and has now reached inc_b1_s9_v1 !

Obviously, there's something wrong with my settings, but I'm not seeing the error.

Using a desktop PC, Windows 10 Pro 64, Acronis True Image 2018 Build 15470 (updated from 12510 after v6 or 7)

Will appreciate any help.

Paul, the normal reason why this type of behaviour is seen is when the Backup Scheme settings are changed after the version chain has been started, which can have the side-effect of resetting the count of backups to be created before a new full backup is reset and the count starts again from that point resulting in more than 5 files being created.

I have been using a very similar backup scheme with just 5 or 6 incremental files before starting a new chain with no issues for a long time with ATI 2018 and 2019 (plus earlier versions).

That may be the problem. I will stop the current backup and create a new one with a different name. Hope it works. Thank you.

That was it. I set it to make 3 inc backups, them make new full, and to keep only 1 backup chain. It did exactly that, then deleted the previous chain, leaving only the new Full backup. Perfect! Thank you.

Paul, good to hear all is solved, thanks for the feedback.
