Can we View the backed up file prior to Restoring the individual file?

Thread needs solution

I am evaluating the trial version or Acronis True Image 2018. I wanted to actual see the j-peg picture or pdf file so that I could confirm it is the correct one to restore. I can open each individual file into another window, but that would be a long process. I hope by purchasing a license that individual pictures would be able to be viewed by selecting view-large in the file menu.

Gary, welcome to these User Forums.

Where are you trying to view your image or PDF document?

If this is from within the ATI GUI Recovery panel, then no, it is not possible to preview the content of the files.

If you double-click on your backup .tib file in Windows Explorer then you should be able to open any of your files in the associated program in that way.

When restoring files etc, it is often a good idea to restore to a different location at first, then copy them from there to where you want them.

Steve,

Thanks for your reply. I look in explorer and drill down into the backup of C: then drill down to users files until I finally get to all the file folders in my Documents folder. Example: if I click on Pictures and then on an individual file (my files are dates), then I click on a "date" file in the left pane, it opens the right window with all of the j-peg pictures in that file folder. However, they are all icons with J-PEG in middle of icon. I can open each one individually to see what the picture is, but that would be very tedious to do on each picture file in order to find the one that I want.

It seems as though Acronis does not have a viewer built-in so that if I select Large Icons or Medium Icons that it allows the icons to show the actual picture. I therefore would have to restore a complete file containing say 50 pictures back to a separate location on my hard drive, then explorer would be able to show the actual image of all 50 in the view window.

Sorry this is a long question/answer, but I do appreciate your help if I am going about it incorrectly.

Thanks

Hello Gary,

Currently we offer no such functionality, but thank you for bringing this idea up! I've forwarded this request to the product management for consideration.

Gary,

When viewing a folder of images using Windows Explorer, selecting medium icons displays as below:

Icons_WithPics.jpg

However, when using Windows Explorer to view the folders in a .tib file, selecting medium icons displays as follows:

Icons_Only.jpg

The icons displayed are for the file type and not an icon of the image.  If you then double click on the icon, it will display.

The licensed version works the same as the trial version.

And what happens if you have the Preview on?

Bruno...If you turn the Preview pane on, and there is no file selected, the preview pane

has a message to:  Select a file to preview

Icons_OnlyWpv.jpg

However, when you select a file, the preview pane goes blank:

Icons_OnlyWpv1.jpg

Ekaterina... a preview pane would be an excellent feature to add. It would be invaluable to photographers.

To all that answered my post,

Thanks for all the great replies. The product looks great and seems to work well. I will be converting my trial version to a licensed one, not only because it works, but because of the great support received in this forum.

I hope product management will seriously consider adding a preview pane in the near future, as I too believe it would be an invaluable tool.

My fear is that it would be slug slow. I don't know, but I'm guessing that Explorer is looking at the directory of the .tib rather than the actual files.

I am a photographer and the ability to view the actual photo and not just an icon with a photo number, WOULD BE INCREDIBLE AND SENSIBLE!!

Also, the ability to erase individual icon{files, etc}.

William, currently the only option you have would be to restore selected files or folders to a temporary location, i.e. a spare drive, then you can use all your normal tools to review them.

As mentioned in your other post in the forums, backup archives are read-only files and cannot be altered / no files can be added or removed etc.  This has always been the case!
