Can't install ATI 2018 for Crucial

Thread needs solution

Hello, I attempted to install ATI 2018 for Crucial. It's a freebie offered to clone HDD to SDD for purchasers of a Crucial SDD. It required other Acronis products to be uninstalled first. Tried to uninstall ATI 2015 and it fails with "unable to locate file". I obtained the Acronis removal tool and making sure it supports ATI 2015. I ran it, did the registry checks specified in the online instructions. Did not find any of the values it said to delete. Made no registry changes. After reboot Windows 10 started having problems and would not start on subsequent attempts to reboot. Had to reload a backup to recover. Would appreciate any info on how to get ATI 2015 uninstalled without trashing Windows?

Al, please see KB 2201: Support for OEM Versions of Acronis Products regarding your Crucial version of Acronis True Image.

Is your installed ATI 2015 a full Acronis product or is this also an OEM version provided by a third party like Crucial?

Does your ATI 2015 still work correctly if you launch the application and attempt to make backups etc?

See forum topic: [How to] uninstall a previous installation which goes into great detail on this subject.

Note: I have never needed to touch the Windows Registry when using the Acronis Cleanup Tool but great care needs to be taken if doing so, as this can very easily turn your computer into a brick!

Steve, Thanks for the reply. My ATI 2015 is a full, licensed version. I only wanted to remove it temporarily. However, as it turns out I didn't even need the ATI for Micron/Crucial so the only problem now is to be able to cleanly uninstall ATI 2015 if I choose to upgrade to ATI 2018. Although there are some issues with ATI 2015 (won't retain Exclusion settings and difficulty retaining some other settings), it still runs on my system and can make backups and clones. The registry procedure is part of the Acronis True Image: Cleanup Utility instructions from the Acronis KB,  https://kb.acronis.com/aticleanup  I only checked for the values, they were not present and I did not modify the registry. The clean up tool procedure for Windows shows ATI 2017 but my version, ATI 2015 is in the "Applies To" list at the top of the page. If I attempt it again I’ll try the “[How to] uninstall a previous installation." Hopefully it will work without corrupting Windows. Regards Al G

Al,thanks for the update and clarification.  I would suggest trying a Repair install for your ATI 2015 to see if that will resolve any of the niggles you are seeing?

A Repair install is performed by simply reinstalling the full installer program over the top of your existing application (without any uninstall).

Actually I had considered trying a reinstall but was not sure if it would ask to uninstall first. Thanks Steve. I'll try that tonight. Regards Al G

I mistakenly installed the generic trial version first. Then I bought a Crucial SSD. Tried to install the SSD as an internal SATA drive (yanked the cables from the DVD drive) for faster speed. That didn't work. Tried it with a USB adapter, that didn't work. Uninstalled the generic software, tried to install the custom Crucial software, got a cryptic error that I gathered meant I had to uninstall the generic version. Installed the Crucial version. Still didn't work. Uninstalled the Crucial version, installed the generic version, found that Clone Disk option is grayed out, requires buying the app (Clone feature is not included in Trial version).

To get everything to work, I did this. Ran System Restore to revert Windows to the setup it had before I began any of this. Ran Regedit and File Explorer and removed anything named acronis. Reboot. Connected SSD with USB adapter (jacks on front panel of PC didn't work, used a USB jack on the rear panel). Installed Crucial version of the app. All set.

FWIW, I also ran Disk Management and Initialized the SSD (right click on left column) and Formatted (Quick Format). Those may or may not have made any difference.

That was quite a while ago but thanks Hugh. I believe I used this cleanup procedure: https://forum.acronis.com/forum/acronis-true-image-2017-forum/how-uninstall-previous-installation
