Clone not booting into Linux

Thread solved

When cloning my SSD C: drive (partitioned as C: and D:) to another internal drive partitioned as E: and F: and the same size; True Image does not always reboot into the Linux environment, which is what I want, both for speed and accuracy. In fact now, it is a VERY rare occurrence

Instead, almost all the time, it completes within Windows, resulting in a cloned drive with no drive letters and not an exact clone either in size or content

Yes, I can use the Boot Media to perform the cloning, but why has the Linux reboot changed? According to the Chat Helpline, this is an intended change due to 'mass feedback'!

Correct??

Roger, welcome to these User Forums.

ATI 2018 has moved away from using Linux for the Rescue media in favour of creating Windows PE media (from the Windows Recovery Environment if available).

Another change in ATI 2018 is the ability to do a live clone from within Windows by using the same Microsoft VSS snapshot service as used when creating a Disk & Partitions backup image.

Live clone will run fine within Windows if the target drive does not already contain a recognised OS, otherwise ATI will force a reboot to allow the clone to continue.

The purpose of a clone is to provide the ability to remove the source drive and replace it with the cloned target drive, therefore if no drive letters are shown as allocated after the clone completes this would be rectified after the drive swop.

Note: It is not recommended to boot your computer with two identical drives installed, as would be the case following a clone operation, where the drive signatures are also duplicated.

Thanks Steve - I guess I'm just going to have to go with it. Progress I suppose, but appreciate the help and hints on cloning within the same system

Going to look at my backup options for redundancy now

Roger, the option to still create the Linux version of the Rescue media is still available and is also the fallback position when using the Simple mode of creation if neither the Recovery Environment or a Windows ADK Kit is found.  Plus the Linux .ISO file is available in your Acronis account downloads page.
