Cloning Problems

Thread needs solution

Hi All,

I was attempting to migrate from a 256GB m.2 SSD to a 512GB m.2 SSD on my HP Envy 13 Laptop.

Here's what I did:

1. Created a Linux based Acronis boot disk through USB.

2. Reboot onto Acronis boot disk.

3. Cloned 256GB SSD onto a 1TB external HDD.

4. Shut Down.

5. Switched out the 512GB SSD.

6. Reboot onto Acronis boot disk.

7. Cloned 1TB external HDD to 512GB SSD.

8. Booted using new 512GB SSD.

Problem:

1. Driver issues on 4-5 drivers including no audio device installed problem.

Any ideas?

Thank you,

OK I have figured it out and solved my own issue and just helping community. This can also be applied to whoever is upgrading their smaller m.2 ssd to bigger m.2 ssd on a laptop and no m.2 to usb adapters.

What I did:

1. Boot via Linux based Acronis boot disk.

2. Backup whole computer from 256GB m.2 ssd to 1 TB usb external HDD.

3. Install bigger m.2 SSD.

4. Boot via Linux based Acronis boot disk.

5. Recover whole computer from 1 TB to 512GB m.2 ssd.

6. Restart boot from new m.2 sdd. you will realize that the total space on boot drive is still 256GB even if it is a 512GB m.2 ssd.

7. Resize boot partition using Disk Director 12 to include unallocated space/partitions (rest of the 256GB).

8. DONE!

Thanks,

Hope it helps
