Confirming Backup/Restore with BitLocker and Win10

Thread needs solution

I am  currently using ATI 2017 and about to upgrade to ATI 2018.

My daily backup method is a full system/image backup and in the event of a full restore, booting from a flash drive containing the ATI Rescue media and restoring the image.

Doing an ATI image restore in the past on a computer with McAfee encryption, while the restore was successful, the drive would not boot, even after various attempts at repairing the MBR.

I have just installed ATI 2017 on my new computer which is encrypted with BitLocker and have created the ATI Rescue flash drive.

I would like to confirm how I should manage ATI to ensure a bootable image should it need to be restored.

I understand that the ATI  backup will be unencrypted, but not sure what the restore procedure would be.

Thanks for any help!

For BitLocker compatibility look HERE

Click on the text links in the above article for further information on working with BitLocker.

Thanks for the response.

Yes I had read the article but not clear on the instructions as it seems to be referring to both managing the backup/restore and possibly how you create the bootable/rescue media. Can you please confirm if my understanding is correct:

- Create the ATI Rescue Media

  1. Suspend the protection -disable BitLocker via the Manage BitLocker feature in the Windows UI
  2. Create the ATI Rescue Media
  3. Enable BitLocker

-Create the image backup normally - will be an unencrypted backup

-When an image restore is needed

  1. Boot from Rescue Media
  2. Restore backup
  3. Boot into Windows
  4. Enable BitLocker

I am assuming that I am booting with BitLocker disabled and restoring an unencrypted backup, is this all correct?

I do not use BitLocker however, it is my understanding that Encryption must be suspended prior to performing a backup to capture data in an non-encrypted state. Once the backup is completed you can enable encryption once again.

If you wish to store your backup in an encrypted state then you will find, that in the Advanced tab of options you can set a Password, and use the applications built in encryption levels of 128, 192 or 256 bit encryption as explained on pages 63 and 64 of the documentation.
